Key Responsibilities
1. Product Design & Technology Leadership
- Bearings & Gears: Oversee the micro-geometry design, macroscopic sizing, and calculation of gear tooth profiles and bearing rolling-element dynamics to maximize load capacity, efficiency, and fatigue life.
- Clutch Systems: Lead the design and development of dry/wet clutch systems, optimizing friction material interfaces, diaphragm spring characteristics, and thermal dissipation.
- Sheet Metal Components: Champion the development of precision sheet metal assemblies (housing covers, bearing cages, brackets), ensuring deep-draw feasibility, minimum springback, and optimal nesting.
2. NPD Pipeline & Project Execution
- Lead the end-to-end Stage-Gate product development lifecycle across multiple simultaneous OEM projects, ensuring timely delivery from RFQ stage to final PPAP sign-off.
- Enforce robust engineering validation methods, including DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly), and Value Engineering (VA/VE) to control costs.
- Own the product validation matrix, defining the requirements for endurance, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), burst testing, and field simulation rigs.
3. Team & Operational Management
- Manage, mentor, and technically elevate a high-performing team of design engineers,
FEA simulation specialists, and prototype technicians.
- Optimize the software tool stack (CAD/CAE) and establish standardization protocols across design calculation templates, drawing release cycles, and change management workflows (ECN/ECR).
- Collaborate with Tool Room, Production, and Quality teams to bridge design intent seamlessly with mass-production manufacturing capabilities.Core Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of gear design principles (macro/micro geometry, heat treatment influence).
- Mastery of bearing selection, failure modes (ISO 15243), and lubrication mechanics.
- Direct experience with sheet metal manufacturing constraints (stamping, progressive dies, blanking limits).
- Software Tools Proficiency: Working familiarity with design suites like Creo / SolidWorks / Unigraphics NX and powertrain analysis software such as ROMAX Designer, or Ansys, Quality Frameworks: Robust understanding of IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, and AIAG-VDA FMEA structures.
Experience: 12 to 15 years of core experience in R&D; / Design & Development of transmission, powertrain, or drivetrain sub-assemblies. Must have a minimum of 3 years leading an engineering team at a Senior Manager level.
