Role & responsibilities

The Local Area Network Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of the enterprise LAN environment. Reporting directly to the Network Manager, this individual will serve as the primary subject matter expert across LAN infrastructure, Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela), routing and switching protocols, and network automation. The role demands a hands-on engineer with a strong track record of leading complex network projects in multi-site enterprise environments.

- Lead end-to-end architecture and design of enterprise LAN environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across all sites.
- Deploy, manage, and optimize Cisco Viptela SD-WAN solutions including policy configuration, template management, and multi-site orchestration.
- Configure and maintain Cisco switching and routing infrastructure, including OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VLAN segmentation, STP/RSTP, HSRP, and VRRP.
- Collaborate with the Network Manager and cross-functional teams to define network strategy and long-term infrastructure roadmap.
- Conduct network capacity planning, traffic analysis, and performance tuning to consistently meet or exceed defined SLAs.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation including topology diagrams, HLD/LLD designs, runbooks, and change management records.
- Lead root cause analysis for complex network incidents and drive implementation of permanent corrective and preventive actions.
- Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies, vendor solutions, and best practices to continuously improve the environment.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing and upskilling initiatives.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical network incidents and planned maintenance activities.

Preferred candidate profile

- Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in LAN architecture and design within complex, multi-site enterprise environments.
- Minimum 5 years of direct experience with Cisco networking platforms,

specifically enterprise-grade switching and routing hardware and software.
- Proven, demonstrable expertise with Cisco Viptela SD-WAN including design, deployment, vManage policy configuration, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Deep working knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols: VLANs, 802.1Q, STP/RSTP/MSTP, HSRP/VRRP, OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP.
- Strong practical experience with Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switching platforms in production environments.
- Proven ability to produce detailed network designs, high-level designs (HLD), low-level designs (LLD), and comprehensive solution proposals.
- Solid understanding of network security principles including ACLs, microsegmentation, firewall integration, and Zero Trust concepts.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to isolate and resolve complex, multi-layer network issues under pressure.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have:

- Cisco Certification: CCNP Enterprise, CCNP SD-WAN, or CCIE strongly preferred. Any current and valid Cisco certification will be viewed positively.
- Cisco DNA Center (DNAC): Hands-on experience with Cisco DNAC for intent-based networking, network assurance, device provisioning, and automated policy management
- Python API Integration with Cisco DNAC: Ability to develop Python-based scripts and automation workflows leveraging Cisco DNA Center REST APIs for device management, telemetry, and reporting.
- SolarWinds: Experience with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM) and/or Network Configuration Manager (NCM) for SNMP-based monitoring, alerting, and configuration compliance.
- API Integration SolarWinds & DNAC via Python: Ability to build integrated automation pipelines combining SolarWinds and Cisco DNAC APIs using Python to create unified monitoring dashboards, automated incident responses, and cross-platform reporting.
- Network Automation Frameworks: Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, or NetBox for infrastructure-as-code practices and automated network provisioning workflows
