Job Description (JD) – Mechanical Foreman/Senior Fitter Technician

Industry: Chemical Manufacturing

Location: Dahej

Job Summary

The Senior Fitter Technician is responsible for carrying out preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment in a chemical manufacturing plant. The role ensures maximum equipment availability, safe maintenance practices, and adherence to plant SOPs while minimizing downtime and improving operational efficiency.

Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Maintenance

- Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of static and rotary equipment.
- Repair and maintain pumps, compressors, gearboxes, agitators, blowers, conveyors, mixers, valves, pipelines, and heat exchangers.
- Carry out equipment alignment, shaft alignment, bearing replacement, seal replacement, coupling maintenance, and lubrication activities.
- Perform dismantling, assembly, installation, and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
- Execute pipe fitting, flange fitting, gasket replacement, and valve maintenance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Perform maintenance on reactors, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and utility equipment.

Plant Maintenance

- Attend emergency breakdowns and restore equipment within minimum time.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify abnormal conditions.
- Assist in plant shutdown and turnaround maintenance activities.
- Ensure proper housekeeping in maintenance work areas.




- Coordinate with production for planned maintenance schedules.

Safety & Compliance

- Follow Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safety procedures.
- Use appropriate PPE while carrying out maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with plant safety standards, SOPs, and statutory regulations.
- Report unsafe conditions and near-miss incidents immediately.
- Maintain proper maintenance records and documentation.

Team Coordination

- Guide junior fitters and technicians during maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with electrical, instrumentation, utility, and production departments.
- Assist Maintenance Engineers in planning and execution of maintenance jobs.

Required Skills

- Strong knowledge of pumps, compressors, agitators, gearboxes, and mechanical seals.
- Expertise in pipe fitting, valve maintenance, and equipment alignment.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs;, and maintenance manuals.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with predictive and preventive maintenance practices.
- Understanding of LOTO, PTW, and industrial safety standards.
- Valuable troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in rotational shifts.

Educational Qualification

- ITI in Fitter (Mandatory)
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering will be an added advantage.

Experience

- 8–10 years of experience in mechanical maintenance in Chemical, Petrochemical, Specialty Chemical, Fertilizer, Pharmaceutical, Paint, Resin, or Process Manufacturing industries.

Pay: ₹300,000.00 - ₹550,000.00 per year
