The Pharmacy Assistant supports the daily operations of the pharmacy by assisting pharmacists with dispensing medications, maintaining inventory, and providing excellent customer service. This role ensures the pharmacy runs efficiently while complying with all legal, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescriptions accurately
- Receive, label, and store medications and pharmaceutical supplies
- Maintain accurate patient and prescription records
- Manage inventory, including ordering, stocking, and checking expiry dates
- Handle cash transactions and process insurance claims (where applicable)
- Provide courteous customer service and respond to general inquiries
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy workspace
- Follow pharmacy policies, procedures, and safety regulations
- Support administrative tasks such as filing,
data entry, and reporting
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Pharmacy assistant certification or training (preferred, depending on region)
- Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology
- Solid attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer and data entry skills
Experience
- Previous experience in a pharmacy, healthcare, or retail environment is an advantage
- On-the-job training may be provided for entry-level candidates
