- Pharmacists

- Pharmacy Trainees
- Store Personnel (if applicable)

Job Summary

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the overall planning, organization, supervision, and continuous improvement of the hospital pharmacy services. The role ensures safe dispensing of medicines, regulatory compliance, inventory management, NABH standards, patient safety, and efficient pharmacy operations while leading the pharmacy team.

Key Responsibilities1. Pharmacy Operations

- Manage day-to-day pharmacy operations.
- Ensure timely and accurate dispensing of medications.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Monitor prescription accuracy and appropriateness.
- Ensure availability of essential medicines at all times.

2. Inventory & Stock Management

- Maintain optimum stock levels.
- Monitor fast-moving, slow-moving, and non-moving items.
- Conduct daily, monthly, and annual stock verification.
- Prevent stock-outs and overstocking.
- Monitor expiry dates and near-expiry medicines.
- Ensure FEFO (First Expiry First Out) and FIFO practices.
- Coordinate medicine procurement with approved vendors.

3. Regulatory Compliance

- Ensure compliance with:
- Drugs & Cosmetics Act
- Pharmacy Act
- NABH Entry Level Standards
- Biomedical Waste Management Rules
- Maintain all statutory pharmacy records.
- Ensure valid pharmacy licenses are displayed and renewed.

4. Patient Safety & Quality

- Ensure medication safety practices.
- Monitor LASA (Look-Alike Sound-Alike) medicines.
- Ensure High Alert Medicines are properly labeled.
- Promote medication error reporting.
- Conduct adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting.
- Participate in quality improvement projects.

5. Team Management

- Prepare staff duty rosters.
- Supervise pharmacists and assistants.




- Conduct orientation for new staff.
- Identify training needs.
- Perform periodic competency assessments.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, and grooming.

6. Documentation

Maintain:

- Stock Registers
- Purchase Records
- Controlled Drug Registers
- Temperature Logs
- Refrigerator Temperature Logs
- Narcotic Drug Records (where applicable)
- Daily Sales Reports
- Expiry Register
- Incident Reports

7. Coordination

Coordinate with:

- Doctors
- Nursing Department
- Purchase Department
- Accounts
- Quality Department
- Infection Control Committee
- Biomedical Waste Committee

8. NABH Responsibilities

- Maintain pharmacy-related SOPs.
- Participate in Internal Audits.
- Conduct Medication Safety Audits.
- Monitor Pharmacy Quality Indicators.
- Ensure compliance during NABH inspections.
- Participate in committee meetings.

9. Financial Responsibilities

- Control medicine wastage.
- Reduce expiry losses.
- Monitor pharmacy revenue.
- Analyze medicine consumption trends.
- Recommend cost-effective alternatives.

10. Staff Training

Conduct regular training on:

- Medication Safety
- LASA Medicines
- High Alert Drugs
- Cold Chain Management
- Narcotic Drug Handling
- Antibiotic Stewardship
- Patient Counselling
- Fire & Emergency Safety
