What you'll own Part drawing and DFM review Review part drawings and 3D models for mouldability before tooling is committed: wall thickness uniformity, draft angles, rib and boss proportions, radii, undercuts, parting line feasibility

Assess whether stated tolerances and GD&T; are achievable in the specified material, and push back with data when they aren't

Apply correct shrinkage factors per material and geometry; flag warpage and dimensional risk early

Advise design on changes that reduce tool complexity and cycle time without compromising the product

Own the cosmetic surface strategy — A-surface definition, gate and weld-line placement away from visible areas, texture and finish specification Mould design data review Review and approve complete mould design data packages from vendors before tool manufacture begins

Evaluate: cavity layout and count, runner balancing, gate type and location, cooling channel design, ejection strategy, venting, slide/lifter/core-pull mechanisms for undercuts

Verify mould base standards, steel grade and hardness selection, and surface finish specification against part requirements and expected tool life

Assess parting line, shut-off conditions, and tool robustness for the intended production volume

Maintain a documented review checklist and sign-off record for every tool Simulation and analysis

Run or commission flow simulation (Moldflow, Moldex3D or equivalent) to validate fill, packing, cooling and warpage before tool release

Interpret results into concrete design changes, not just reports

Predict and pre-empt common defect modes: short shot, sink, weld and flow lines, jetting, burn marks, splay, warpage,

flash Tool trials, validation and production support

Plan and attend T0 / T1 / T2 trials; drive systematic correction cycles to sign-off

Establish the process window and moulding parameters; support scientific moulding practice and DOE where useful

Coordinate dimensional validation — CMM reports, first article inspection, capability studies (Cp/Cpk)

Troubleshoot production defects and separate tool causes from process, material and machine causes

Own preventive maintenance schedules, spares planning and tool life tracking across the tool bank Vendor and cost management

Manage toolroom vendors in India and overseas (China, Taiwan) — technical negotiation, timeline governance, quality accountability

Evaluate tool quotations on engineering merit, not only price; build and defend tooling cost estimates

Handle tool transfers, refurbishment decisions and end-of-life planning

Specialised processes

Support multi-material work: overmoulding, two-shot and insert moulding (for example rigid shell with soft-touch elastomer)

Support in-mould decoration and in-mould labelling (IMD / IML) tooling, where decoration is integrated into the moulding step rather than applied afterwards What we're looking for Must have

5+ years in injection mould tooling — mould design,

tooling engineering, or tool-side project engineering

Direct experience with small precision parts: mobile handset housings and covers, consumer electronics enclosures, or comparable cosmetically critical components

Proven ability to review and red-line both part drawings and mould designs independently

Solid 3D CAD — SolidWorks, NX, Creo or CATIA — plus 2D drawing interpretation and GD&T;

Working knowledge of engineering thermoplastics and their moulding behaviour: PC, ABS, PC/ABS, TPU/TPE, PMMA, PP, nylon, and filled grades

Practical familiarity with mould base standards (HASCO, DME, LKM, MISUMI, Futaba) and mould steels (P20, H13, S136, NAK80, 718H)

Hands-on trial and debug experience on the shop floor, not only desk-based engineering

Willingness to travel to vendor toolrooms, including overseas Good to have

Flow simulation capability — Autodesk Moldflow, Moldex3D or Sigmasoft

Mobile handset industry background (Noida, Sriperumbudur or Tirupati clusters)

Two-shot, overmould or IMD/IML tooling experience

Chinese toolmaker experience and comfort managing across the language and time-zone gap

Metrology depth — CMM programming, GR&R;, PPAP documentation

Working Mandarin (useful, not expected) What we're not looking for An engineer whose experience is entirely in large automotive or appliance tooling. The discipline of small cosmetic parts — sub-millimetre wall sections, tight cosmetic tolerances, gate vestige control on visible surfaces — is a genuinely different craft, and we'd rather hire for it directly.
