We are seeking a deeply technical and domain-focused SWIFT & ISO 20022 Specialist to own the cross-border architectural stream of a major payments modernization initiative. The successful resource will be responsible for translating high-level business goals for global payments into concrete technical designs. The primary focus of this role is to successfully architecture the implementation of modern SWIFT cloud APIs (Pre-validation, Case Management, gpi) and map incoming/outgoing global messaging rails to the bank’s internal core engines and client channels.
Key Responsibilities 1. ISO 20022 Message Engineering & Design • Architect and map end-to-end messaging flows for cross-border transactions, shifting legacy messaging variants to structured XML formats.
- Lead the specific technical design and schema validation for pacs.004 (Payment Returns) and camt.056 (Resolution of Investigation / Recall) messages for both inward and outward processing.
- Ensure data completeness and integrity throughout the mapping layers to avoid truncation issues during downstream core banking processing.
- SWIFT API & Ecosystem Integration • Architect the target integration blueprint for the SWIFT Pre-validation API to minimize friction and prevent transaction rejections at the point of origin.
- Design the system communication layer for SWIFT Case Management to streamline and automate transaction exception handling.
- Create integration paths to surface real-time data from the SWIFT gpi (Global Payments Innovation) Tracker directly into Private Online Banking (POB) and Corporate Online Banking (COB) customer front-ends.
- Cross-Border Automation & Channels Optimization • Design the programmatic logic required to ingest incoming SWIFT rails and execute real-time automation, such as applying carded FX rates and dynamically triggering customer Credit Advices.
- Architect structural handling for transaction compliance workflows, including routing logic for handling failures (e.g., automated notification triggers from core modules to POB/OTC staff interfaces).
- Utilize standard industry tools (such as SWIFT MyStandards) to formalize documentation for usage guidelines, message schemas, and validation rules.
Required
Skillset & Qualifications Technical & SWIFT Domain Expertise • SWIFT Network Mastery: 5+ years of hands-on experience working directly with SWIFT connectivity, messaging engines, and messaging topology.
- Deep ISO 20022 Proficiency: Thorough, low-level technical understanding of MX message structures—specifically pacs (payments clearing and settlement) and camt (cash management) structures.
- API-Driven Architecture: Proven experience implementing modern web-service APIs provided by SWIFT (e.g., SWIFT gpi, Pre-validation, exception/case management APIs) using REST, JSON, and secure transport layers.
- Format Transformation: Robust experience managing complex data transformation layers, MT-to-MX translation rules, and utilizing platform validation tools (e.g., SWIFT MyStandards portal).
- Downstream Integration: Familiarity with how SWIFT messages interact with Core Banking engines, FX pricing platforms, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) / Sanction screening filters.
Preferred Qualifications • Swift Certified Professional or formal training in SWIFT standard releases and ISO 20022 implementation.
- Previous experience driving global messaging modernization tracks for commercial or regional hub banks.
