Job overview: The Spigot Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring spigot grinding and pipe de-ovalization equipment to prepare ductile iron pipe plain ends in accordance with approved dimensions, profiles, surface-finish requirements, and production plans. The role sets up equipment, verifies pipe identification and size, performs dimensional and visual checks, records results, and coordinates with Quality and Maintenance to ensure safe and effective production of conforming pipes.

Key accountabilities

• Review production orders, SOPs, and specifications; confirm pipe size, class, quantity, and spigot profile, and inspect equipment, guards, tools, and gauges before start-up.

• Set up, operate, and monitor spigot grinding and pipe de-ovalization equipment in line with company SOPs and quality standards; adjust approved parameters and tooling.

• Safely position and secure pipes with approved handling equipment, preventing damage to pipes, linings, coatings, and ends.

• Record output, inspections, downtime, material usage, rework, rejection, tool changes, and abnormalities; use the data to support improvement, optimization, and waste reduction.





• Grind and de-ovalize pipe ends to the required diameter, profile, roundness, and surface finish; remove sharp edges and conduct dimensional and visual in-process checks.

• Identify defects, adjust or stop the process, segregate nonconforming pipes, and coordinate prompt resolution with Production, Quality, and Maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma / Technical diploma in a related field.

Experience

• 1–3 years of experience in heavy manufacturing, pipe finishing, machining, grinding, or a related production environment. Skills: • Technical Skills: Spigot grinding and pipe de-ovalization; machine setup and operation; dimensional measurement; defect identification; basic equipment care; tool replacement; production traceability; 5S; quality control; waste reduction.
