Assistant Manager / Shift Incharge (Surfactant – Ethoxylation Plant)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager / Shift Incharge for our Surfactant (Ethoxylation) Manufacturing Plant. The incumbent will be responsible for managing safe and efficient batch/continuous ethoxylation operations, ensuring adherence to process parameters, production targets, product quality, and EHS standards. The role requires hands-on experience in handling Ethylene Oxide (EO) and supervising plant operations during assigned shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Process Operations

- Lead and supervise batch/continuous ethoxylation processes as per production plans.
- Oversee charging of raw materials such as fatty alcohols, fatty acids, amines, and other feedstocks.
- Ensure proper catalyst addition, nitrogen purging, and controlled feeding of Ethylene Oxide (EO).
- Monitor batch progress and ensure completion within specified process parameters.
- Coordinate with Quality Control for in-process and final product approvals.

Process Monitoring & Control

- Continuously monitor critical process parameters including temperature, pressure, EO flow, reaction time, and agitation.
- Ensure smooth operation of utilities including steam, cooling water, vacuum, nitrogen, and compressed air systems.
- Operate and monitor DCS/PLC systems to maintain safe and efficient plant operations.
- Optimize process efficiency while minimizing raw material losses and downtime.

Safety & EHS Compliance

- Ensure strict compliance with Ethylene Oxide (EO) handling procedures and process safety guidelines.
- Monitor fire protection systems, gas detectors, emergency shutdown systems, and safety interlocks.
- Enforce the use of PPE and adherence to all EHS policies, statutory regulations, and environmental norms.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety inspections, and promote a strong safety culture within the shift team.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Coordination





- Identify and resolve process deviations, pressure spikes, utility failures, and equipment abnormalities.
- Take immediate corrective actions to ensure safe and uninterrupted production.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance team for equipment breakdowns and preventive maintenance activities.

Team Management

- Supervise plant operators and technicians during the assigned shift.
- Allocate work, monitor operator performance, and ensure discipline on the shop floor.
- Conduct effective shift handovers and communicate production status, safety observations, and pending activities.

Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain accurate batch production records, logbooks, shift reports, raw material consumption records, and downtime logs.
- Record process deviations, corrective actions, and production performance.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, GMP, ISO, and internal quality documentation requirements.

Qualifications

- B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Chemical Engineering / Petrochemical Engineering.

Experience

- 3–6 years of hands-on production experience in a Surfactant, Ethoxylation, Specialty Chemical, or Oleochemical manufacturing plant.
- Experience in handling Ethylene Oxide (EO) or other hazardous chemicals/gases is mandatory.

Required Skills

- Strong knowledge of ethoxylation and surfactant manufacturing processes.
- Sound understanding of exothermic chemical reactions and pressure vessel safety.
- Hands-on experience with DCS/PLC-based plant operations.
- Knowledge of emergency shutdown procedures, process safety management, and hazardous chemical handling.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Positive leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
- Willingness to work in rotational shifts.

Preferred Candidate

- Experience in manufacturing non-ionic surfactants and ethoxylated products.
- Familiarity with ISO systems, GMP, HAZOP, and EHS practices.
- Candidates from Bharuch, Ankleshwar, Vadodara, or nearby locations will be preferred.
