A Shift Incharge - Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) (AOD) manages steel refining operations, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production targets (e.g., carbon/sulfur reduction).
Key duties include monitoring furnace/lining health, coordinating with CCM and maintenance teams, and analyzing heat cycles for efficiency.
Core Responsibilities
- Operational Control: Oversee AOD furnace operations to ensure timely material charging and proper steel processing.
- Process Monitoring: Maintain vigilance over furnace lining and ladle conditions, reporting issues to the plant incharge.
- Quality & Safety: Ensure liquid metal meets quality specifications (checking first samples) and strictly follow safety protocols.
- Coordination: Collaborate with Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) incharge, planning, and maintenance teams for seamless workflow and breakdown resolution.
- Performance Optimization: Perform root cause analysis to enhance production, reduce erosion, and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Documentation: Prepare and submit shift reports.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Generally 0–7 years of relevant experience in steel plant operations.
- Education: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of AOD process, Preventive & Predictive Maintenance, TPM, and Hydraulics.
- Soft Skills: Leadership, team management, and problem-solving abilities.
