The Research Hive team has been hard at work! We have been expanding our reach outside our home of The University of Manchester to partner with and recruit writers from other institutions with amazing results. We are so pleased to be helping early-career researchers begin developing their skills in science communication.

The next few months will involve more outreach beyond both UoM and life sciences. We welcome submissions and team members from all disciplines. This platform is for anyone who thinks they can benefit from it.

QUIZ: £20 Voucher Prize We secured some funding to be able to award some prizes to our readers! Every 2 months, we will be launching a quiz with questions based on our previously published articles. We hope the questions will guide you to learn something new and see the wide range of topics we cover.

The only requirement to be entered into the prize draw (currently a £20 Amazon voucher) is to set up an email subscription to the blog. You can find subscription boxes at the end of each post and on our homepage. Subscriptions must be confirmed in your emails to validate your subscription.

It’s free and easy, and you get some wonderful quick reads straight to your inbox. Our first quiz is now OPEN. You can find it here. We will announce winners and future quizzes on our social media accounts (X and Instagram).

We will be closing the first quiz on 25th October. Good luck to everyone taking part!

Writer Prizes:

£40 Voucher Prize We are also pleased to announce prizes for our writers! For 2–3-month periods, we will be looking at the statistics to assess which posts received the most engagement (views, social media clicks, interactions) within the first fortnight after publication. All posts submitted within the time frame will be automatically entered.

After crunching the numbers for the Summer period (June-August), we are pleased to announce our first-ever prize winner Isabella Hubbard! Isabella from LSTM wrote this fantastic article about the Neglected Tropical Disease scorpionism. It received wonderful praise across social media and sets a outstanding example for all potential writers to get some inspiration!

Honourable Mentions Go To Rebecca

Light for her post about social media and vaccine hesitancy.

Sayema Khan for her guide on research paper writing for early-career researchers. We will be considering articles submitted in September, October and November for the next prize!

Tip: We receive a lot of traffic from social media referrals. Sharing your article with your networks will greatly increase your engagement!
