Who We Are
Aviatrix® is pioneering the Cloud Native Security Fabric — the architecture the Containment Era requires.
The Cloud Native Security
Fabric governs every workload communication path across every cloud, every VPC, every Kubernetes cluster, and every serverless function, from a single policy plane. One rule. Universal propagation. Enforced at the workload, not at a chokepoint. Trusted by more than 500 of the world's leading enterprises. For more information, visit aviatrix.ai.
About The Role - Staff Engineer – Backend Engineering
Aviatrix Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) delivers the intelligence, network, and security services of Aviatrix's multi-cloud platform as a managed offering, built on modern microservices architecture. We're seeking a Staff Engineer for our SaaS Platform team to bring technical depth to backend engineering, contribute to distributed microservices and cloud-native infrastructure design on AWS, mentor junior engineers, and raise the bar on reliability, performance, and security. Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Contribution
Own design and delivery of backend platform features, breaking down complex projects into scoped tasks
Contribute to architecture discussions on scalability, fault tolerance, multi-tenancy, and operational simplicity
Collaborate on core platform services using AWS-managed services (Aurora, MSK/Kafka, ClickHouse)
Evaluate trade-offs on technology choices, system boundaries, and API contracts; write clear design docs
Backend Engineering Excellence
Design high-performance microservices using gRPC, REST, and event-driven patterns (Golang preferred)
Reinforce best practices for observability, resiliency, and SLO-driven operations
Contribute to supportability (runbooks, diagnostics) and apply security best practices across service boundaries
Participate in design reviews, capacity planning, and incident retrospectives
Mentorship & Collaboration
Mentor junior engineers through code reviews,
design discussions, and 1-on-1s
Collaborate with Product Management; participate in on-call and incident RCA; support recruiting as needed Requirements
Experience & Education
3+ years software engineering experience, with some mentoring experience
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience on a SaaS/PaaS product with high-availability, multi-tenancy exposure; comfortable with ambiguity
Backend & Microservices
Robust Golang preferred; production-grade gRPC microservices experience a plus
Solid grasp of distributed systems (consistency, fault tolerance, service discovery, circuit breaking, back-pressure)
Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, OS, and systems programming
API design/versioning experience (REST and gRPC), backward compatibility
SaaS Platform & AWS Managed Services
Experience with multi-tenancy and high-availability design patterns
Familiarity with AWS-managed services (Aurora, MSK/Kafka, ClickHouse); event-driven systems (SQS, SNS) a plus
Production Deployment & Supportability
Experience deploying/operating production services, release management, and operational readiness
Understanding of observability, alerting, diagnostics, and runbooks; incident response and RCA experience
AWS & Cloud Infrastructure
Experience with AWS as primary cloud platform; familiarity with Kubernetes (EKS)
Familiarity with IaC (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation) and CI/CD for cloud-native services
Nice to Have
Monitoring/logging/tracing or platform-management tooling experience
Additional AWS services (RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda); multi-cloud (Azure, GCP) exposure
Network security, cloud networking, or SASE/SD-WAN background; open-source contributions or technical writing
Interpersonal & Communication
Strong written/verbal communication; effective in collaborative, distributed teams; skilled at mentoring and building consensus Watch our culture video: glimpse of life at Aviatrix
