Job Objective The Senior EHS Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing EHS compliance across all regional Solar, Wind, Wind Solar Hybrid power projects. This role involves ensuring adherence to EHS standards and preparing Safety MIS reports. The manager will also be responsible for developing and maintaining site-specific procedures, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture within the business unit.
Key Responsibilities (As stated and not limited to)
Regional EHS Compliance Management
Ensure EHS compliance across all assigned power projects within the region.
Monitor and ensure adherence to IFC Performance Standards (PS), World Bank Group (WBG) Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) guidelines, Environmental & Social Management Systems (ESMS), and Integrated Management Systems (IMS).
Regional MIS Management
Prepare project-specific EHS Management Information Systems (MIS).
Maintain regional MIS and submit to the Central MIS coordinator by the end of every month.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of regional MIS data and reports.
Analyze regional MIS data to identify trends, provide insights, and support decision-making.
Procedure Development and Risk Management
Formulate, review, and revise safe working procedures, checklists, and formats for site activities.
Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and implement control strategies to mitigate risks.
Review and approve work permits and HIRA,
tracking renewals, closures, and revisions as needed.
Training and Awareness
Provide training on various Environmental, Health, Safety, and Social (EHS) topics to promote a robust ESG/EHS culture among stakeholders.
Organize corporate and site-level events to enhance EHS awareness.
Audits and Inspections
Conduct EHS audits, inspections, and walkdowns at plants under execution/operation.
Prepare, submit, and follow up on audit and inspection reports and observations.
Compliance and Issue Resolution
Identify non-conformities throughout processes and work towards their resolution.
Examine client EHS Manuals and assess cost implications of special requirements, providing reports to the business development team when requested.
Other Routine Tasks
Monitor Toolbox Talks, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Near Misses, Unsafe Acts and Unsafe Conditions (UAUC) for their closure, and Grievances for immediate redressal.
Ensure investigations into incidents, accidents, and near-misses.
Lead or participate in on-site EHS committee meetings to continuously improve site EHS performance.
Assist colleagues in mapping EHS requirements and ensuring consistency across all projects.
Qualifications
Degree/Diploma in Industrial Safety Management from a recognized institution is mandatory.
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in an engineering field.
Relevant certifications in EHS management (e.g., NEBOSH, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) are preferred.
Qualified experience
Diploma Holders (Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical): Minimum of 15 years of experience in EHS management post completing Diploma in Industrial Safety Management.
Engineering Graduates/Post Graduates: Minimum of 12 years of experience in EHS management post completing Diploma in Industrial Safety Management.
Domain Knowledge
Exceptional Knowledge of EHS aspects in renewable energy, especially Solar and Wind.
Awareness of applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to environmental, health, and safety management.
Knowledge of IFC Performance Standards (PS), World Bank Group (WBG) Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) guidelines, and Environmental & Social Management Systems (ESMS) is a big plus.
Knowledge of languages
English: Fluent or working proficiency (both written and verbal).
Additional Languages: Knowledge of regional languages relevant to the assigned zone/region is advantageous.
Skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to develop and deliver training programs on EHS topics.
Strong analytical skills to identify trends, assess risks, and provide actionable insights.
Effective problem-solving abilities to address non-conformities and implement corrective actions.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, collaborating with peers and stakeholders to achieve common goals.
