RESPONSIBILITY, AUTHORITY & COMPETENCY (RAC) JOB TITLE: Metallurgical Engineer / Senior Engineer – Metallurgy DESIGNATION: Engineer / Senior Engineer DEPARTMENT: Quality / Metallurgy LOCATION: Sansera Engineering Ltd.
REPORTING TO: Manager – Quality / Head – Metallurgy PRIME FUNCTION To establish, monitor, and control metallurgical processes including forging, heat treatment, welding, anodizing, and laboratory testing to ensure compliance with customer, statutory, and automotive quality requirements. Responsible for metallurgical analysis, testing, process validation, customer support, and continual process improvement.
/ Responsibilities Ensure compliance with metallurgical requirements for steel making, steel forging, aluminium forging, heat treatment, anodizing, and welding processes.
Perform metallurgical testing including Rockwell Hardness, Brinell Hardness, Tensile Testing, Microscopy, and Particle Count analysis.
Conduct metallography activities including sample preparation, polishing, etching, and microstructure evaluation.
Carry out microstructure analysis, grain size analysis, inclusion rating, cleanliness assessment, and prepare detailed metallurgical reports.
Establish and validate forging and heat treatment processes as per customer specifications and applicable standards.
Interpret and implement international standards such as ISO, ASTM, DIN, EN, and VDA.
Ensure compliance with IMDS, REACH, ELV, and SOC regulatory requirements.
Support current product development activities through metallurgical validation and process capability studies.
Participate in customer audits, technical discussions, failure analysis, and customer complaint investigations.
Review engineering drawings, Control Plans, PFMEA, Process Flow, and PPAP documents for metallurgical compliance.
Ensure adherence to IATF 16949 requirements and customer-specific quality requirements.
Coordinate with production, quality, and R&D; teams for continuous improvement in metallurgical processes.
Maintain laboratory practices in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements (where applicable).
Prepare technical reports, maintain laboratory records, calibration records, and testing documentation.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, process capability, and customer satisfaction. AUTHORITY Approve metallurgical test reports within the defined authorization limits.
Recommend process modifications for forging, heat treatment, and material selection.
Stop or reject non-conforming products based on metallurgical evaluation.
Initiate corrective and preventive actions related to metallurgical issues.
Coordinate with customers and certification agencies on metallurgical compliance matters. JOB SPECIFICATION / COMPETENCY Educational Qualification B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering / Materials Engineering or equivalent.
Experience Relevant experience in automotive manufacturing, forging, heat treatment, and metallurgical laboratory operations.
Technical Competencies
Sound knowledge of heat treatment, steel making, steel forging, aluminium forging, anodizing, and welding.
Hands-on experience with Rockwell, Brinell, Tensile Testing, Microscopy, and Particle Count equipment.
Strong expertise in metallography and metallurgical testing.
Experience in microstructure evaluation, grain size analysis, inclusion rating, and technical report preparation.
Knowledge of ISO, ASTM, DIN, EN, and VDA standards.
Understanding of IMDS, REACH, ELV, and SOC requirements.
Working knowledge of IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, and engineering drawings.
Knowledge of laboratory management systems as per ISO 17025 is desirable.
Good analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer interaction skills. PERFORMANCE MEASURES On-time completion of metallurgical testing and reports.
Customer complaint reduction related to metallurgical issues.
Compliance with customer specifications and international standards.
Process capability improvement for forging and heat treatment.
Laboratory accuracy and testing reliability.
