Job Summary The School Counsellor is responsible for supporting students' emotional, social, behavioural, and academic well-being. The role involves providing individual and group counselling, implementing preventive mental health programmes, collaborating with teachers and parents, and promoting a secure, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Student Counselling

- Provide confidential individual and group counselling to students experiencing academic, emotional, behavioural, or social challenges.
- Conduct assessments to identify students requiring additional support.
- Develop intervention plans and monitor student progress.
- Support students during periods of crisis, transition, or significant life events.

Mental Health & Well-being
- Design and implement well-being programmes, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
- Promote resilience, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and positive behaviour.
- Support bullying prevention, child protection, and safeguarding initiatives.

Academic & Career Guidance
- Assist students with academic planning and study skills.
- Provide guidance on career exploration, subject selection, and higher education pathways.
- Help students identify their strengths, interests,



and future goals.

Parent & Teacher Collaboration
- Work closely with teachers to identify and support students facing academic or behavioural concerns.
- Conduct meetings with parents to discuss student progress and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Provide strategies and resources to support students both at school and at home.

Safeguarding & Crisis Intervention
- Respond appropriately to students at risk of self-harm, abuse, neglect, or other safeguarding concerns.
- Follow school policies and statutory safeguarding procedures.
- Coordinate referrals to external mental health professionals or agencies when required.

Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, confidential counselling records.
- Prepare reports and maintain documentation in accordance with school policies and applicable regulations.
- Ensure confidentiality while complying with mandatory reporting requirements.

Professional Development
- Stay informed about current counselling practices, child psychology, and educational trends.
- Participate in training, workshops, and school improvement initiatives.

Experience
- 2-8years of counselling experience in a school, educational, or child-focused setting.
