Manager – Sales Tax Consulting (GSS)

About the Role

Cherry Bekaert is seeking an experienced Manager to join our growing Sales Tax Consulting practice within Global Shared Services (GSS). Based in India and supporting U.S. clients, this role will lead multistate sales and use tax consulting engagements involving nexus, taxability, exposure analysis, voluntary disclosure agreements, registrations, audit and reverse audit support, exemption documentation, process reviews, and tax technology initiatives.

The Manager will serve as the India-based engagement leader and primary bridge between GSS professionals, U.S.-based engagement teams, and client contacts. This individual will own project execution, review technical conclusions and deliverables, manage budgets and timelines, develop team members, and ensure responsive, high-quality client service across time zones.

Key Responsibilities

Consulting Engagement Leadership

- Lead U.S. sales and use tax consulting engagements from planning through delivery, including nexus reviews, taxability analyses, exposure quantification, remediation, registrations, audit defense and reverse audit projects
- Define project plans, assign responsibilities, monitor budgets, drive projects to timely completion

Technical Review & Advisory

- Review project milestones and client deliverables, and provide feedback to team members
- Identify sales and use tax issues for clients in multiple industries
- Research and resolve complex issues using authoritative sources and document conclusions and assumptions

Client Service & Communication





- Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for assigned U.S. clients and engagement teams, managing expectations, information requests, and deliverables
- Lead or participate in client meetings, ask thoughtful questions, explain technical matters in practical business terms, and communicate recommendations clearly
- Ensure all written communications and deliverables meet client-ready standards for technical accuracy, tone, grammar, organization, and responsiveness

GSS Team Leadership & Development

- Manage, coach, and develop India-based seniors and associates through effective delegation, timely review, technical guidance, and actionable feedback
- Coordinate assignments with U.S. leaders, and promote accountability for project deadlines
- Build team capability through structured training, knowledge sharing, documented procedures, and consistent application of engagement standards

Global Delivery & Operational Excellence

- Coordinate workflow between India and U.S. teams to provide meaningful business-hour overlap, efficient handoffs, and clear ownership of next steps
- Maintain organized project files, trackers, and documentation that support conclusions and facilitate productive reviews

Qualifications

- 5 years of sales and use tax consulting leadership / project management
- Experience managing multiple multi-state engagements
- Strong background in sales tax research, Microsoft excel
- Strong written and verbal communication and organization skills
- Knowledge of tax technology platforms
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
