Industry: Renewable Energy | Solar PV | Solar Hybrid | BESS Role Purpose The Principal Hybrid Power Systems Engineer is the technical authority for the company's Hybrid Energy business. The role is responsible for the engineering, technical governance, operational support and continuous development of hybrid power solutions integrating Solar PV, Diesel Generators (DG), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS). The position provides technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle while building internal capability and reducing dependence on external technical partners.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Act as the company's Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Hybrid Power Systems.
Implement engineering standards, design guidelines and technical best practices.
Mentor engineers and build internal technical capability.
Support business development with technical leadership and solution architecture.
Engineering & Solution Development
Lead the design and engineering of Solar PV, DG, BESS and EMS solutions.
Perform system sizing, load assessments and technology evaluations.
Review and approve SLDs, equipment selection, protection philosophy and system architecture.
Develop battery integration solutions for existing and future installations.
Provide technical expertise for system design reviews, commissioning activities, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of EMS platforms.
Develop and maintain EMS operational strategies to ensure reliable, secure, and cost-effective energy generation, distribution, and utilization.
Technical
Assurance & Governance
Approve engineering designs, design changes and technical deviations.
Lead technical reviews, audits and due diligence of projects and operating assets.
Ensure compliance with applicable standards, client specifications and engineering best practices.
Support root cause investigations and define long-term corrective actions.
Review EMS reports, performance dashboards, and historical data to identify operational deviations and emerging risks.
Project & Operations Support
Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, performance testing and project handover.
Support operating sites by resolving complex technical issues and identifying performance improvement opportunities.
Develop commissioning procedures, operating manuals and lessons learned documentation.
Ensure achievement of plant performance targets related to energy efficiency, system availability, and renewable energy utilization.
Provide technical recommendations to improve system resilience, asset utilization, and overall energy management performance. Vendor & Technology Management
Evaluate technology partners, OEMs and suppliers.
Review vendor technical submissions and challenge recommendations where appropriate.
Capture external knowledge and progressively internalize technical expertise to reduce reliance on third-party SMEs.
Technology
Roadmap & Continuous Improvement
Own the technical roadmap for hybrid power technologies including Solar PV, DG, BESS and EMS.
Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, advanced analytics, and digital solutions to strengthen EMS capabilities. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including procedure updates, operator training, and lessons-learned implementation to enhance operational excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred).
10–15 years' experience in Hybrid Power Systems, Solar PV,
Microgrids or Distributed Energy Systems.
roven experience in engineering, commissioning and operational support of Solar PV, DG integration and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Captive & Emergency Power Generation Plant.
Demonstrated experience leading engineering reviews and providing technical authority on complex power projects. Preferred
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or Renewable Energy.
Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent.
PMP or equivalent project management certification.
Experience in Oil & Gas, Mining, Remote Industrial Power or other mission-critical industrial facilities.
Experience working in GCC countries.
