JD For Postgres DBA

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior RDS DBA Admin to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and optimizing our relational database systems hosted on Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service). This role requires a deep understanding of database administration, cloud infrastructure, and performance tuning to ensure the high availability, security, and efficiency of our database environments.

Key Responsibilities

1.

Database

Administration

· Manage and maintain Amazon RDS instances, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server.

· Perform database provisioning, configuration, and version upgrades.

· Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies.

· Monitor database performance, implement tuning improvements, and resolve issues.

- Security and Compliance:

· Ensure database security by implementing best practices for access control, encryption, and data masking.

· Maintain compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Performance

Optimization

· Conduct performance analysis and tuning of database systems.

· Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database schema design.

· Proactively identify and resolve potential performance bottlenecks.

- Automation and Scripting:

· Develop and maintain automation scripts for routine database tasks using tools such as AWS CLI, CloudFormation, or Terraform.

· Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices for database deployments.

- Monitoring and Troubleshooting:





· Utilize monitoring tools to track database health and performance metrics.

· Troubleshoot database-related issues and work with development teams to resolve them.

Capacity

Planning and Scalability

· Conduct capacity planning to ensure database resources meet current and future demands.

· Implement strategies for scaling databases both vertically and horizontally.

- Collaboration and Mentorship:

· Collaborate with application developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless database integration and operation.

· Provide mentorship and guidance to junior DBAs and other team members.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

· 5+ years of experience in database administration, with a focus on Amazon RDS.

· Proficiency in managing and optimizing databases on AWS.

· Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with one or more database engines (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MariaDB).

· Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.

· Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and services, particularly AWS.

· Experience with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, AWS CLI).

· Knowledge of database security best practices and regulatory compliance requirements.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Solid communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· AWS Certified Database – Specialty or other relevant AWS certifications.

· Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
