Role: SDE II – Platform Services & Developer Tooling
Function: Backend Engineering / Platform Engineering
Location: Bengaluru
Type: Full-time
Industry: Information Technology & Services, Computer Software, Fintech
About Company The company is a Bengaluru-based enterprise tech startup founded in 2016. It builds India's paperless digital infrastructure — covering digital identity verification, e-KYC, Aadhaar-enabled e-signing, eNACH payment automation, and document workflows.
The company serves 1,500 enterprises and 100 million individual users. It operates within a tightly regulated compliance envelope spanning RBI and SEBI.
Backed by notable investors, the company runs a 90-person team with a strong ownership-driven, customer-first culture. Co-founded by alumni of Flipkart and Twitter, it also runs a CSR initiative focused on education, skill development, and environmental conservation.
Position Overview
This is a founding seat on the company's Platform Pod — a newly formed team mandated to own the infrastructure every product team depends on. As the Track B owner for Services & Tooling, you will take production ownership of Billing and Notifications post-migration, build golden-path templates and service scaffolding that raise the floor for all 40 engineers, and create developer-facing access and debugging tooling that eliminates the need for direct production shell access. Your work directly determines how fast and safely the engineering org can ship.
Role & Responsibilities
- Own Billing and Notifications services post-migration as production systems with defined SLAs — including on-call, incident response, and iterative reliability improvements
- Build and maintain golden-path service templates and scaffolding that standardize how new backend services are bootstrapped across the org
- Author and maintain per-area onboarding runbooks and documentation infrastructure that meaningfully reduce ramp time for engineers rotating into new domains
- Design and ship self-serve log access, environment introspection, and debugging tooling that gives engineers full observability without requiring production shell access
- Contribute to production-access governance tooling — audited break-glass flows, deployment automation hooks, and access control integrations
- Partner with product engineering teams to identify workflow friction, instrument measurable improvements, and close the loop with documentation and tooling updates
- Conduct code archaeology on inherited services — understand undocumented behavior, surface implicit contracts, and harden or refactor where needed
Must Have Criteria
- 3–5 years of backend engineering with demonstrable end-to-end ownership of at least one production service (on-call, SLA accountability, incident retrospectives)
- Language-agnostic backend proficiency — robust fundamentals in service design, APIs, and data modeling; comfortable picking up a new language or framework on the job
- Hands-on experience building or maintaining internal developer tooling — CLI tools, service templates,
scaffolding generators, or equivalent
- Demonstrated developer empathy: evidence of measurably improving another engineer's workflow (tooling shipped, adoption metrics, or documented feedback)
- Comfort with code archaeology — ability to navigate, document, and reason about undocumented legacy codebases without prior context
- Experience with structured logging, distributed tracing, or observability instrumentation in a production microservices environment
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in fintech, payments, or identity-regulated environments (RBI/SEBI compliance context)
- Familiarity with access governance patterns — RBAC, audit logging, break-glass access flows
- Experience owning billing or notification systems specifically (event-driven delivery, retry logic, idempotency)
- Exposure to documentation-as-code tooling or internal developer portals (e.g., Backstage, Docusaurus, or equivalent)
- Experience at a company that ran a platform or DevEx team serving an internal engineering org
What We Offer
- Founding seat on a greenfield Platform Pod — define the team's practices, tooling choices, and culture from day one
- Org-wide scope: your golden paths and tooling will be used by every engineer at the company
- Work on regulated, high-stakes infrastructure — payments, identity, e-sign — where reliability and security are non-negotiable and the problems are genuinely novel
- Flat, rotation-friendly engineering org with strong ownership culture and first-principles problem-solving
- Bengaluru base with a 90-person team at a well-funded stage, serving 100M users across 1,500 enterprise clients
