Position: Paper Buying Expert / Manager – Paper Procurement

Job Summary The Paper Buying Expert will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies for paper, test liner, fluting medium, duplex boards, and other paper grades used in corrugated packaging manufacturing. The role involves supplier management, cost optimization, contract negotiation, inventory planning, market intelligence, and ensuring uninterrupted supply while maintaining quality and sustainability standards. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement

Develop sourcing strategies for domestic and international paper procurement. Purchase kraft paper, recycled paper, virgin kraft, test liner, fluting medium, duplex boards, and specialty papers. Identify alternate sources to reduce procurement risks. Develop annual procurement plans aligned with production forecasts.

Supplier

Management

Build and maintain relationships with paper mills, traders, and importers. Evaluate supplier performance on quality, delivery, pricing, and service. Conduct supplier audits and qualification processes. Develop strategic partnerships with key suppliers. Cost Optimization

Negotiate annual and spot purchase contracts. Analyze paper market trends, pulp prices, freight costs, and currency fluctuations.



Drive cost-saving initiatives through strategic sourcing and volume negotiations. Benchmark prices across domestic and international suppliers. Inventory & Supply Planning

Ensure optimum inventory levels while minimizing carrying costs. Coordinate with production planning for uninterrupted raw material availability. Monitor slow-moving and excess inventory.

Support

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP;) activities.

Market

Intelligence

Track domestic and global paper market trends. Monitor pulp prices, recycled paper indices, import duties, logistics costs, and freight movements. Assess supply-demand dynamics affecting pricing. Provide periodic market intelligence reports to management. Quality & Compliance

Ensure purchased paper meets technical specifications and quality standards. Coordinate with Quality Assurance on supplier performance. Ensure compliance with FSC, PEFC, ISO, and sustainability requirements where applicable.

Coordination

Work closely with: Production Planning Quality Finance Logistics Sales Resolve supply issues proactively. MIS & Reporting

Prepare procurement dashboards and KPI reports.

Track: Cost savings Purchase price variance (PPV) Supplier performance Inventory turnover Supply reliability Present procurement insights to senior leadership.
