Role Summary The Senior Network / Firewall Specialist & Engineer is a hands-on execution role within Pod A, responsible for core operations and incident handling during Shift 1 (IST) coverage. This person performs the build, migration, upgrade, validation, and decommissioning work for in-scope Fortinet firewalls under the direction of the Pod Network Architect.

Key Responsibilities

- Rack, stack, power up, and baseline-configure target FortiGate 1800F devices; integrate with DNS, NTP, SNMP, Syslog, and CMDB.
- Execute FortiOS 7.2.9 upgrades with pre-upgrade health assessments, HA synchronisation validation, and post-upgrade stability monitoring.
- Migrate firewall rules, NAT policies, and routing using FortiConverter; complete rule-by-rule validation against the source configuration.
- Run automated config backup, ping/health-diff, and pre/post validation using Ansible and Python tooling.
- Perform parallel-deployment cutovers, validate service and traffic flow, and execute rollback testing where required.




- Handle incidents and troubleshooting during the shift; capture RCA inputs and escalate complex issues to the Pod Architect.sssss
- Decommission legacy 1500D / Cisco FPR-4110 hardware, remove stale configs/dependencies, and update diagrams and runbooks.

Required Skills & Experience

- 5+ years hands-on network/firewall engineering, with robust Fortinet FortiGate operations and upgrade experience.
- Practical FortiConverter migration, FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer operations, HA, NAT, routing, and policy configuration.
- Exposure to multivendor environments (Palo Alto, Check Point, Cisco ASA/NGFW) and DC cutover execution.
- Scripting/automation experience with Ansible and Python for config provisioning, backup, and validation.
- Comfortable with structured change processes, weekend cutovers, and detailed validation/documentation.
- Available for IST (10:00–18:00) coverage including weekend on-call during cutover windows.

Certifications (Preferred)

- Fortinet NSE 4 / NSE 5 preferred.
- CCNA/CCNP Security or equivalent an advantage.
