Reports to Mechanical Material Coordinator & Operations
Duration 6 months (aligned to the 17-week production program)

Type - Full-time internship About the role
We need a hands-on mechanical intern who can move fast between CAD, vendors, and the workshop floor, working directly under our mechanical coordinator to keep every physical part of our product on track and fitting together correctly. This is not a desk-only design role. You'll be checking fit against CAD, visiting mould and material vendors, inspecting incoming parts, and keeping the whole mechanical side organized end to end.
Prior industry experience isn't required - we care much more about genuine hands-on ability, curiosity about how things are actually manufactured, and reliability in following through on details. What you'll actually be doing
- Coordinating with the mechanical design engineer/agency — tracking CAD revisions, flagging fit or manufacturability concerns, and keeping STEP files organized and version-controlled.
- Supporting fit-checks: comparing physical samples (shell, silicone, textile parts) against CAD models and reporting mismatches clearly.
- Assisting with mould vendor coordination - attending vendor visits, tracking tooling progress, following up on sample deliveries and quality issues.
- Sourcing and procuring small mechanical components — fasteners, hinges, hardware, foam, and other minor parts -
getting quotes and comparing suppliers.
- Coordinating with material vendors across the different subsystems: plastic/shell moulding, silicone (ear cushions,
gaskets), textile/soft goods (straps, liner, padding), and mil-spec connectors - tracking samples, lead times, and specs for each.
- Performing incoming quality checks on mechanical parts as they arrive from vendors - dimensions, finish, material feel - against the agreed spec.
- Supporting sub-assembly and sample builds - hands-on physical assembly of prototype and pilot units.
- Maintaining a easy, up-to-date tracker of every mechanical vendor, part status, and open issue, and flagging blockers to Singaram immediately rather than sitting on them.
- Helping with packaging and final QC checks during the production/dispatch phase. Must-have skills & knowledge
- Comfortable reading and navigating 3D CAD models and STEP files (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar — doesn't need to be expert-level, but should be able to open a model, check dimensions, and spot an obvious fit problem).
- Basic understanding of common manufacturing processes: injection molding, silicone/rubber molding, and sheet metal or machining basics — enough to have an informed conversation with a vendor.
- Working knowledge of common engineering materials - plastics (ABS, polycarbonate, nylon), silicone,
textiles/webbing, and connectors - and roughly how each is manufactured and tested.
- Ability to read a basic technical drawing (tolerances, dimensions, GD&T; basics is a bonus, not mandatory).
- Comfortable using spreadsheets to track parts, vendors, and status — organization matters more than tools here.
- Strong follow-through:
this role lives or dies on chasing vendors and closing loops, not just attending meetings. Good to have (bonus, not required)
- Prior college project or personal experience with 3D printing, prototyping, or a maker space.
- Exposure to PPE, wearables, helmets, or similar multi-material consumer/industrial products.
- Familiarity with basic quality tools — vernier calipers, go/no-go gauges, visual inspection standards.
- Interest in defence, tactical gear, or automotive-grade product development. Who will do well in this role
- Someone who enjoys being on the shop floor and at vendor sites, not just behind a laptop.
- Someone organized by nature — comfortable tracking multiple vendors and parts without things slipping through the cracks.
- A clear, proactive communicator who flags a problem the day it appears, not the week it becomes a crisis.
- Someone genuinely curious about how physical products get made — willing to ask vendors questions and learn on the job. What you'll gain

You'll report directly to our Mechanical Material Coordinator & Operations) and work alongside the hardware and firmware engineers during sub-assembly and integration phases. Founders handle final vendor approvals and procurement sign-off; your job is to make sure they always have accurate, current information to make those calls quickly.
