Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Configuration (IODF/Zoning) Consultant with 6–8+ years of hands-on experience in IBM Mainframe infrastructure, I/O configuration, storage connectivity, and SAN zoning. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in IBM Z Mainframe, HCD/HCM, IODF management, FICON architecture, IBM DS8000 storage, and Brocade SAN zoning .

This is a client-facing consulting role requiring solid technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead mainframe infrastructure upgrades, migration projects, storage integration, disaster recovery planning, and enterprise infrastructure optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Mainframe Infrastructure Configuration

- Design, configure, and maintain IBM Mainframe I/O infrastructure.
- Create and maintain I/O Definition Files (IODF).
- Configure Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) and Hardware Configuration Manager (HCM).
- Manage channel path definitions and device configurations.
- Validate I/O configurations across production environments.

IODF & HCD Administration
- Develop and maintain IODF configurations.
- Perform IODF updates and migrations.
- Configure logical partitions (LPARs).
- Validate hardware configuration changes.
- Support configuration management throughout the infrastructure lifecycle.

Storage & SAN Configuration
- Configure IBM DS8000 storage connectivity.
- Perform FICON zoning across SAN fabrics.
- Configure Brocade SAN switches.
- Manage channel-to-storage connectivity.
- Optimize SAN performance and resilience.
- Validate storage paths and redundancy.

Mainframe Upgrade & Migration
- Plan and execute:
- IBM Z hardware upgrades
- Technology refresh initiatives
- Storage migrations
- Infrastructure modernization
- Configuration migrations
- SAN upgrades
- Minimize production downtime during migration activities.

Connectivity & Performance Optimization




- Analyze existing infrastructure.
- Optimize I/O performance.
- Improve storage connectivity.
- Enhance system availability and resiliency.
- Recommend infrastructure improvements.
- Support capacity planning initiatives.

Troubleshooting & Incident Management
- Diagnose complex infrastructure issues.
- Troubleshoot:
- FICON connectivity
- Channel path failures
- SAN zoning issues
- Storage connectivity
- Hardware configuration problems
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Resolve production issues within agreed SLAs.

Disaster Recovery & High Availability
- Support Disaster Recovery (DR) planning.
- Validate DR configurations.
- Participate in DR testing.
- Maintain High Availability (HA) infrastructure.
- Support business continuity initiatives.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in

- Computer Science
- Information Technology

- Related Engineering Discipline

Required Experience
- Minimum 6–8+ years of experience in IBM Mainframe infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with IBM Z Mainframe configuration.
- Experience in IODF creation and maintenance.
- Experience with enterprise SAN environments.
- Experience supporting production mainframe infrastructure.
- Client-facing consulting experience is preferred.
