The General Manager ( Marine Operations) is the engine room of the company. You will translate the COO’s vision into actionable plans :-
- Ensuring continued flow of Marine Engineering projects
- ensuring skilled manpower team availability for projects and
- ensuring time-bound execution.
Core Responsibilities
1. Build a pipeline of projects :
Identify potential clients, pitch and win Marine Engineering projects to ensure uninterrupted pipeline of projects for Marine Engineering Business and represent company for Non-Marine engineering businesses.
1. Resource Management
- Operational Planning: Develop detailed work schedules and resource allocation maps for the COO’s approval.
- Identify and tap into skilled manpower for the project, ensuring availability for deployment well in time for projects at hand.
- Utilisation Optimisation: Monitor manpower deployment to ensure maximum billable hours and efficient resource rotation
- Inventory Control: Oversee the procurement and management of spare parts, specialised tools, and consumables.
- Regulatory & Government Liaison: Represent the company before maritime authorities, port officials, Public and private sector marine companies and government bodies to ensure full compliance with local and international maritime laws.
1. Tactical Execution & Project Management
- Be the final point of contact for Clients: Manage the end-to-end execution of engineering projects, from initial mobilisation to final delivery and ensure effective communication with the clients.
- Resource Coordination: Harmonise the technical team’s efforts across various projects with logistical support to ensure personnel and equipment are best utilised.
- Work closely with the Project Heads to implement Projects as per agreed timelines and cost parameters.
- The Accountability:
Assume ultimate accountability for all operational outcomes, including project timelines and service reliability.
- Direction: Lead and mentor the Operations team, Project team, and the Technical Team, ensuring synergy between commercial goals and technical capabilities.
1. Team Leadership & Personnel
- Manpower Management: Oversee the recruitment, training, and deployment of marine engineers, technicians, and crew needed for the project.
- Visit project sites on a need basis, at the time of commissioning and during execution of projects.
- Performance Tracking: Conduct regular performance reviews for the operations team, identifying training gaps and promoting high-performers.
- Safety Enforcement: Ensure that on-ground teams strictly adhere to the QHSE protocols set by the COO.
1. Reporting & Financial Oversight :
- COO Liaison: Act as the primary bridge to the COO, providing daily or weekly operational reports, highlighting potential risks.
- Budget Control: Manage the operational expenditure (OPEX) for projects, ensuring they stay within the margins defined in the corporate budget.
- Data Analysis: Use operational data to identify bottlenecks and suggest process improvements to the leadership
- Problem-Solving: A "fixer" mindset—the ability to resolve complex logistical or technical hurdles in real-time.
- Vendor Management: Negotiating and managing contracts with third-party service providers and subcontractors.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring all paperwork (certificates, logs, and permits) applicable to the project are up-to-date and audit-ready.
- Operational Readiness: Maintaining a state of readiness for emergency call-outs or rapid-response engineering
1. Leadership Style:
A "command and control" presence balanced with the ability to mentor the technical team.
