Job Summary The Global Classification Senior Specialist is responsible for accurately classifying products, raw materials, documents, and project technology in accordance with the World Customs Organization (WCO)-defined Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Export Control Number (ECN) regulations across various countries. The role also involves updating the master database with classifications and their rationale, driving process improvements within the Global Classification Team, and maintaining relevant documentation to ensure compliance and efficiency.
This position reports to the Manager- Global Classification and is part of the Supply Chain Logistics located in Bangalore and will be an in office role.
What you will do
- Research and assign required classification to companys relevant items, including raw materials, intermediate products, packaging, finished goods and equipment.
- Classification SOPs must be followed to ensure that all relevant General Rules of Interpretation, General Notes and Custom Rulings are properly cited, and that records are maintained reflected drawings, technical information or and other supporting data used to achieve a high level of classification accuracy.
- Utilizing BOM and other information and engineering systems to assist in identifying the form, fit and function of products to arrive at accurate HTS and ECCN classification.
- Create, update, maintain ITC master database/PDM/PLM and ERP systems to help develop and produce products of high trade compliance
- Product ITC registration in customs code classification database for appropriate import/ export codes (HTS/ECN/ECCN). Work closely with the global team and respond, as appropriate to technical questions posted by researching on the product technical Data mining in our web catalogue, PDM, Service toolbox, supplier websites.
Understand and interpret BOM, drawings and other design documents .
- Maintenance of data and electronic records for Special Programs, organizations classification and Country of Origin through organizations Global Trade System and other databases.
- Exposure to E2Open application and or working with Global Trade Management modules of either E2open or SAP will be an added advantage.
- Communicating with internal clients and external supplier on issues regarding detailed information on details of parts origin information and or classification assisting information.
Who you are
- Minimum 6-10 years of experience in performing Customs HTS and ECCN classification.
- Bachelor s degree in engineering preferably in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics and communication
- Additional qualification in International Trade, Customs classification process is preferable.
- Exposure to International ITAR and US Export control classification process is desirable.
- Exposure to Global countries Harmonized Tariff Schedule is advantageous.
- Customs Classifier s certification preferred.
- Excellent analyzing computer skills including data entry, PC, Windows, database and Excel spreadsheet.
- Experience in cross functional interactions with Global Sales, Commercial Sourcing, Engineering, Data base administrators, Regulatory affairs, Service and Manufacturing organizations
- Able to interpret EBOM, understand the Engineering drawings Specifications
- Experience in Life Sciences domain would be an added advantage
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in In customs regulations, trade compliance, or supply chain operations. Exposure to international trade laws, product lifecycle management, and familiarity with global trade management (GTM) systems would further enhance your ability to excel in this role.
