Faculty Application Status: Closed The online faculty application for teaching and leading programs for the Spring Break 2027 and Summer 2027 study abroad cycle was open from November 5, 2025 through January 21, 2026 11:59PM EST and is now closed. The application is hosted on Survey Monkey Apply.

All applicants are required to apply using an FSUID. Applicants who already have an FSUID should authenticate using their regular username and password. Non-FSU applicants who do not yet have an FSUID will need to request one on the FSUID registration page. Once again, non-FSU applicants must complete this step before applying to teach abroad. If you cannot remember your FSUID or are having issues registering, please contact the Help Desk at [email protected] or (phone hidden).

NEW PROGRAM LEADER APPLICANTS

All applicants interested in proposing a new Study Center OR non-Study Center program , must meet with International Programs by December 1, 2025 , before submitting an application. The purpose of this introductory meeting is to review IP policies, procedures, timelines, and other considerations for new programs. Current program leader applicants are expected to attend this meeting prepared with a general outline of their program, including location, academics, and other ideas.

Many factors are considered with decision-making as part of the application review process. All applications are submitted through the review process; however, approval of applications is not a guarantee. Priority consideration will be given to FSU faculty applications .

Florida State University International Programs is proud to offer the opportunity to teach abroad. This incredible experience allows faculty members to immerse themselves in foreign cultures, engage their students in hands-on learning experiences, and gain personal and professional rewards from their time abroad.

International Programs offers year-round study abroad programs at four study centers located in: London, England; Florence, Italy; Panama City, Republic of Panama; and Valencia, Spain. Faculty members have the option of applying for a fall, spring, spring break, or summer session in one of these four locations. There is also a multitude of curriculum-focused, or major-focused, programs offered in many other places throughout the world during the summer.

During a study abroad program, the foreign city transforms into the classroom; faculty members have the opportunity to teach highly motivated students in unique and small learning environments.

They bring with them a passion for their subject that cannot be matched, one that is highlighted even further by the locations rich in tradition that International Programs offers. These faculty members serve as instructors, mentors, and guides, challenging students to become globally aware citizens during this life changing experience.

As faculty members repeatedly return to teach in foreign locations, they become more familiar with those places: where to buy the best gelato in Florence, how to navigate the London Underground with ease, and how to order paella in Valencia using Spanish. Faculty members also develop strong rapport with local experts in their fields to create unique opportunities for guest speakers, which further enhance students’ learning experiences. Through these relationships, faculty members and students can immerse themselves in the local community and begin to delve into the culture of their host city.

Program Leader Materials The Study Center Program Leader Policy Guide and the Non-Study Center Program Leader Policy Guide outline the responsibilities of the role, including expectations for pastoral care, legal information, communication policies, safety and security policies, and judicial/conduct.

Program leaders also have access to additional materials related to leading a study abroad program, which will be provided to you. We also have a document, Understanding the Student Application Process , which is a helpful and brief reminder about communications policies and the student application process.

Faculty Orientation In order to be prepared to teach abroad, all faculty members and Program Leaders (regardless of location or years of experience) whose applications have been accepted must attend a mandatory Faculty Orientation session. This orientation will cover safety and security, current global issues, as well as how to prepare for going abroad. Orientation date options will be sent to faculty members by email and they must respond with their preferred date of attendance.

Textbooks & Syllabi

Faculty members must provide textbook and course materials information for their courses being taught abroad to International Programs. They must also be prepared to submit a copy of their course syllabi to an International Programs or study center staff member within the first week of their courses.

Passports & Visas

Faculty members must keep in mind that some countries may require visitors to have a passport that is valid three to nine months after their return to the United States. They must also keep in mind that immigration laws are subject to change. Insurance Information

International Programs will provide full International Health and Emergency Evacuation Insurance coverage for all study abroad faculty members from the United States through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). Health & Safety For 60 years, Florida State University International Programs has been committed to providing a rewarding academic experience that enriches the lives of our students. Our highest priority is and always has been the welfare and security of our students.

Program directors maintain contact with our Tallahassee office, local authorities, and United States officials, both at home and abroad. Each program holds meetings with students in which safety procedures and precautions are detailed and regularly re-emphasized. Each program has an Emergency Plan which includes details about local health care facilities, meeting points and procedures, and contingency plans and funds should it ever become necessary to evacuate our students.

Students are reminded to inform International Programs of the details of their independent travel details via our online travel form, heed US State Department travel advisories, and take relevant emergency and US Embassy/Consulate contact information with them.

Students venture abroad to experience other countries, and to gain a deeper appreciation of their role as American citizens in the world. FSU International Programs is fully committed to helping students realize these aspirations in a safe and secure learning environment.

Travel Insurance Information FSU International Programs encourages program participants to consider purchasing travel insurance. Travel insurance comes in many forms and can protect you in case you need to change your travel plans due to unforeseen circumstances. The coverage ranges from help with lost baggage to delay in flight plans to trip cancellation.

Travel insurance that covers fees associated with changing your airfare plans is especially helpful for those attending programs that require entry or student visas. Immigration approval can take months with regulations changing often that can cause the need to delay or cancel flight plans. Often airfare arrangements are non-refundable or cannot be changed without fee penalties.

Certain types of trip cancellation insurance will reimburse you the cost of your airfare or penalty fees. Travel Insurance must cover failure to obtain visa .

You may wish to begin researching travel insurance and trip cancellation policies by using the Travel Insurance Review website. Their Travel Insurance 101: The Complete Guide to Travel Insurance section is particularly helpful for those just beginning their research. They also have a section that allows you to compare different policies.

Travel insurance is also offered through CISI and Travel Insured International. Please note that this plan must be purchased within 21 days of paying your first fee. For example, if looking to insure the cost of the program, the plan must be purchased within 21 days of paying the commitment fee to International Programs. If wishing to insure only the cost of the flight, the plan must be purchased within 21 days of purchasing airfare.

Clery Act In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (the “Clery Act”), Florida State University must provide annual notice to the campus community regarding the availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. The 2024 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is now available and can be viewed on the Florida State University Police Department’s webpage. The reports contain statistics from the previous three years of reported crimes that occurred on campus, in off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by FSU, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campuses. Additionally, this report includes important information regarding policy information related to campus security, policies regarding drug and alcohol use, crime prevention, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking prevention, as well as fire safety systems, fire statistics, and fire safety policy information.
