Key Responsibilities Production &
- Workflow Management: Oversee daily shop floor operations across all manufacturing stages—including timber framing, foam/padding prep, fabric/leather cutting, sewing, and final upholstery. Allocate tasks based on technician skill levels to optimize piece-rate targets.
Quality
Control &
- Craftsmanship: Conduct stage-wise inspections to ensure the structural integrity of frames, correct foam density application, precise seam stitching, pattern matching, and wrinkle-free upholstery finishing before final packaging. Team Leadership &
- Training: Manage, mentor, and evaluate floor technicians and line workers. Provide hands-on training on machinery operation, safety protocols, and proper upholstery techniques for current hires. Safety &
- Workplace Compliance: Enforce occupational safety standards, ensuring proper handling of pneumatic staple guns, woodworking saws, and chemical spray adhesives. Maintain a clean, organized shop floor (5S standards) to prevent fabric damage or oil stains. Material &
- Waste Management: Monitor raw material usage (timber, leather, fabrics, springs, foam, hardware) to minimize waste. Coordinate with store inventory teams to ensure seamless supply availability and prevent line stoppages.
Process Improvement: Identify workflow bottlenecks, minimize rework rates,
and implement Lean manufacturing practices to boost production yield and lower operational costs.
Requirements &
Qualifications Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience in furniture manufacturing, specifically upholstered furniture or sofa production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of sofa construction, wood joinery, foam grades, fabric/leather cutting techniques, and industrial upholstery processes. Blueprints &
- Tech Packs: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, furniture CAD blueprints, and cut sheets. Leadership &
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven track record of managing floor workers, resolving conflicts, and driving team productivity. Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to address line bottlenecks, material defects, or machinery downtime quickly.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk the factory floor for extended periods, and lift/move furniture components (up to 50 lbs) as necessary.
Education: High school diploma/12th pass required; a degree or vocational certificate in Manufacturing Management, Industrial Technology, or Woodworking/Upholstery is a plus.
