Company Description India Literacy Project (ILP) is a volunteer-based non-profit organization with chapters across the United States and India, working toward the vision of a fully literate and educated India. ILP focuses on grassroots interventions that improve access to schools, support enrolment of out-of-school children, and help retain learners who are at risk of dropping out. The organization also works to enhance learning outcomes and create pathways to productive careers, often in collaboration with NGOs, government bodies, corporations, foundations, and individual supporters.
ILP is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in the US and a Public Charitable Trust in India, with donations being tax-deductible in both countries under applicable tax laws.
Role Description The Digital Literacy Facilitator is a contractual, on-site role based in the districts of Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Ranipet and Villupuram. The facilitator will conduct teaching sessions to students studying classes 6 to 9 in Government schools. They will leverage the use of HiTech labs installed in schools to build the foundational and advanced AI skills.
Daily responsibilities include in-person instruction of AI curriculum, offering hands-on support and guidance to students helping them develop a strong, practical knowledge of using AI skills throughout the academic year.
The role also involves maintaining accurate school visit records, coordinating with the local district/ block Education authorities and school HMs.
The facilitator will foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity, confidence, and continuous improvement in digital literacy for the students.
Qualifications
Strong digital skills, including basic computer operations, internet navigation, productivity tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets), and protected use of online platforms.
Prior experience in teaching, or facilitating group learning, preferably with children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Enthusiastic about education and passionate to teach children to bring a positive impact in their ability learn about AI skills with a focus on practical, hands-on learning.
Excellent communication skills in Tamil; ability to explain concepts in simple, accessible terms.
Empathy, patience, and a learner-centered approach, with a commitment to child safety, inclusive and non-discriminatory practices in the classroom.
Comfort with basic data entry and documentation, including maintaining attendance, progress reports, and feedback forms.
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience in community-based education (ITK, etc.)
Prior experience in working with non-profits or in community development initiatives is an advantage.
Willingness to travel to multiple schools in the districts, collaborate with local authorities on education and school HMs.
