The Deputy Manager - Raw Materials & Machinery role plays a key part in expanding the sales of machinery and spare parts for steel mills while supporting growth into other industrial sectors. Based in Vijayanagar, the position focuses on customer development, localisation of imported spare parts, techno-commercial sales, and strengthening local supply capabilities.

Responsibilities

- General
- Develop a strong understanding of the trading business and its code of conduct
- Build knowledge of the machinery business
- Become familiar with the organisational structure across India, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and other countries where business associates are located

- Sales
- Develop knowledge of product categories currently offered or sold in India, as well as other potential products
- Conduct market research to identify and evaluate sales opportunities
- Meet customers regularly to understand their requirements, generate leads, and convert opportunities into business
- Prepare techno-commercial offers for customers
- Negotiate and finalise orders with support from headquarters
- Develop new sales opportunities with existing and prospective customers in cooperation with the India, Japan, and global Raw Materials and Machinery teams
- Serve as a key point of contact for customers in Vijayanagar and other steel mills in Southern India
- Develop pricing strategies and value-selling propositions to support customer satisfaction
- Coordinate internally and with customers to achieve full delivery compliance
- Analyse demand and supply statistics, competitor offerings,



and opportunities to differentiate the company’s solutions
- Build and nurture key account relationships with procurement, maintenance, and operations teams within the steel and related sectors
- Track the target service life of rolling mill rolls, bearings, and spindles against the company’s and competitors’ performance

- Manage profitability against budget
- Develop an understanding of contract management
- Handle export and import documentation, including letters of credit, bills of lading, invoices, certificates of origin, and certificates of analysis
- Manage deliveries and follow up with customers regarding payments
- Maintain positive customer and supplier relationships
- Handle customer and supplier claims or complaints and support their satisfactory resolution
- Analyse export and import data and share relevant findings to support market intelligence
- Manage domestic sales documentation, including invoices, packing lists, e-way bills, certificates of origin, and certificates of analysis
- Prepare and update weekly reports
- Complete customer reconciliations in a timely manner
- Other Duties & Responsibilities




- Develop strong working relationships with key personnel in India, at the company’s headquarters, and across other overseas offices
- Ensure prompt responses to customers and suppliers
- Thoroughly review all export and import documents before submission
- Provide consistent market feedback to management in India to support future business strategy

- Control and manage expenses
- Undertake business travel in line with company requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering, or a Master of Business Administration in Operations
- 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience
- Strong experience in machinery-related business within the steel industry
- Experience in the steel industry and knowledge of steelmaking processes
- Experience in the sales and marketing of engineering products
- Knowledge of international trade
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Robust team-building capabilities
- Experience working within a Japanese trading company or another multinational trading company
- Willingness to undertake business travel as required
