Role Overview

We are looking for a high-impact Data Scientist who can operate at the intersection of data, business, and decision-making. This role is not limited to building models. One is expected to own problems end-to-end, drive insights, and influence business outcomes in a fast-paced lending environment.

CreditMantri helps consumers and small businesses improve their Credit Health & Credit Scores. In India, usually, over 80% of loan applications are rejected by the lender.

Credit

Mantris aim is to help this underserved consumer understand the reasons for loan rejection, take charge of their credit health and get access to better credit products & services. The platform helps these Credit Invisible consumer segments to take charge of their credit health and take better borrowing decisions.

CreditMantri is a profitable Fintech headquartered in Chennai, founded and run by a team with extensive experience in world-class financial services organizations. We are a Fintech intermediary with a Direct to Consumer platform with a registered user base of over 20 Mn consumers on the Demand side. We work with 60 plus lenders on the Supply side.

Lenders on the platform include PSU Banks, Private & Foreign Banks, NBFCs, Fintech lenders and P2P lenders. We have been a market leader and innovator in this space and amongst many things take the credit for being the first to launch the concept of a Free Credit Score in the country.

Key Responsibilities

- Translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical frameworks and measurable outcomes
- Build, validate, and deploy machine learning models for risk, growth, collections and user behavior




- Analyze large-scale datasets to identify drivers of key metrics and uncover actionable insights
- Design experiments, evaluate impact, and iterate based on results
- Work closely with product, business, and risk teams to drive data-backed decisions
- Ensure solutions are scalable, interpretable, and aligned with business objectives

What We are Looking For

Core Skills

- Strong proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn) and SQL
- Solid understanding of statistics, machine learning, and data modeling
- Experience working with large, messy, real-world datasets

Mindset & Approach
- High ownership: ability to take a problem from ambiguity analysis solution impact
- Robust business intuition: understands what matters and prioritizes accordingly
- Analytical rigor with a bias for action
- Comfortable challenging assumptions and asking the right questions

Good to Have
- Experience in fintech / lending / credit risk
- Exposure to experimentation, segmentation, or behavioral analytics
- Familiarity with modern ML/LLM workflows or data products
