Job Purpose
A Senior Mechanical Engineer for CNC Machine Tool Maintenance is responsible for the mechanical upkeep and reliability of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, which includes tasks like troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, analysing failures, and repairing critical components. The role requires expertise in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, reading mechanical drawings, implementing maintenance plans, and applying problem-solving techniques like 5S and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) to ensure machine uptime and reduce costs.
Repairing critical assemblies such as spindles, ball screws, turrets, and automatic tool changers (ATCs).
• Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems:
Reading and understanding hydraulic and pneumatic circuit diagrams for effective maintenance and repair.
• Maintenance Planning:
Implementing and managing preventive maintenance plans to minimize downtime and extend machine lifespan.
• Problem Solving:
Utilizing tools and techniques like 5S, Why-Why analysis, and Kaizen to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance machine reliability.
- Shop Floor Management:
Maintaining 5S standards and eliminating leakages to improve the overall work setting.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- CNC Machine Principles: Understanding how CNC machines work and their specific components.
- Mechanical Drawings: Ability to read and interpret mechanical and hydraulic/pneumatic drawings.
- Component Expertise: Hands-on experience with repairing CNC machine parts like spindles and ball screws.
- Maintenance Methodologies: Knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and the 7QC tools for problem-solving.
- Root Cause Analysis: Proficiency in techniques like "Why-Why" analysis to identify and address failure causes.
- Safety Practices: Conducting safety patrol rounds and ensuring adherence to safety procedures.
Desirable Qualifications (Optional):
- Certification in CNC programming or maintenance.
- Exposure to industry 4.0 tools or CMMS systems.
