Job Summary

As a Senior AWS Cloud Platform Engineer within the Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering infrastructure products that enable scalable, secure, and efficient cloud operations, while also acting as a key point of support for the teams and customers who rely on them. These products are built to empower internal teams and customers by abstracting complexity, accelerating cloud adoption, and embedding best practices into reusable, self-service solutions. This is a hybrid role that blends hands-on platform engineering with operational support: alongside building, you will help triage, track, and resolve the incoming requests and issues that arise across customer deployments, account access, and platform errors.

You will collaborate across the AWS Centre of Excellence (CoE) to drive platform engineering excellence and deliver tangible value through both automation and dependable, responsive support.

Role and Functions

You will act as a senior technical contributor and mentor, balancing delivery of new platform capabilities with the operational support that keeps existing services healthy. You will be responsible for:

- Leading the design and implementation of AWS infrastructure solutions.

- Driving automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.

- Acting as a senior point of contact for incoming support requests, triaging and resolving issues across customer deployments, account access, and platform errors.

- Supporting the development and operations lifecycle with a DevOps mindset.

- Applying software engineering principles to platform development.

- Collaborating with product teams to ensure platform alignment with business goals.

- Feeding recurring issues and support insights back into the platform roadmap to reduce toil and prevent repeat incidents.

- Contributing to the evolution of the CPE team s technical strategy and delivery model.

Main Responsibilities

Platform Engineering Delivery

- Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure automation products that enable secure, scalable, and efficient AWS platform capabilities.

- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, CodePipeline.

- Implement and manage IaC using Terraform.

- Apply software engineering best practices to infrastructure and platform code.

- Design and implement automated testing strategies for infrastructure and platform components.

- Ensure security, compliance, and governance across AWS environments.

- Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost.

- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.

Support, Triage Operations

- Serve as a primary responder for incoming requests from internal teams and customers, covering deployment failures, account access issues, and platform errors.

- Triage, categorise, and prioritise incoming issues by impact and urgency, ensuring each request is understood, logged, and routed appropriately.

- Maintain a single, reliable source of truth for support requests (e.g. a ticket queue or tracker), keeping status, ownership, and history up to date.

- Investigate and resolve issues hands-on performing root-cause analysis, remediating broken customer deployments, and restoring access and service.

- Communicate clearly with requesters and stakeholders, providing timely updates, workarounds, and resolution details.

- Identify recurring or systemic problems and drive permanent fixes, automation,

or self-service improvements to reduce future support load.

- Contribute to and maintain runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge-base articles to speed up resolution and enable the wider team.

- Help define and improve support processes, SLAs, and escalation paths as the team s support function matures.
