Job Description Software Engineer II (Production Support)

Position Title: Software Engineer II Production Support

Location: Chennai

Work Schedule: Rotational Shifts (24x5 Support Model)

Experience: 3 to 12 Years

Mode of Work: All 5 days WFO

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer II to join our Production Support team. The ideal candidate will have strong Java development and debugging skills, hands-on experience in production support and a passion for driving operational excellence through automation. This role requires working closely with engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to ensure high application availability, rapid incident resolution, and continuous service improvements.

Candidates should be comfortable working in a rotational shift environment to support business-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide L2/L3 production support for mission-critical applications and services.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve production incidents within defined SLAs.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive and corrective actions to minimize repeat issues.
- Analyze application logs, system metrics, and monitoring alerts to identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Develop and enhance application features, bug fixes, and support tools using Java.
- Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.
- Support production deployments, maintenance activities, and release validations.
- Collaborate with development, QA, infrastructure, and business teams during incident management and problem resolution.
- Create and maintain operational runbooks, knowledge articles, and support documentation.




- Participate in on-call and shift support activities as required.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 36 years of experience in application development and/or production support.
- Strong hands-on experience in Java programming and debugging.
- Experience with Java-based frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring MVC, or similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of production support processes, incident management, problem management, and change management.
- Experience troubleshooting application, database, and integration-related issues.
- Positive understanding of REST APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
- Experience with SQL databases and query optimization.
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk, Datadog, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Grafana, or similar.
- Experience with source control systems such as Git.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in automation and scripting using Python, Shell Scripting, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based support processes.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Added Advantage

- Experience with AI-driven automation tools and solutions.
- Hands-on exposure to Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Azure AI Services, ChatGPT, or similar AI-powered productivity and automation tools.
- Experience implementing AI-based solutions for incident analysis, knowledge management, operational automation, or productivity improvements.
- Interest in leveraging Generative AI technologies to enhance support efficiency and reduce manual effort.
