ROLE OVERVIEW The Platform Engineer Kubernetes is responsible for application deployment engineering on an established Kubernetes platform supporting .NET microservices with an Angular 20 frontend. The underlying infrastructure and platform tooling are already set up and managed; this role focuses on developing Helm charts and templates, Argo CD ApplicationSets, Kubernetes operators where required, and building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines as workloads move from single-instance Docker to Kubernetes. This role is primarily Kubernetes and platform engineering, with a secondary hands-on .NET development component — the engineer is expected to read, debug, and modify C# / .NET service code, not just deploy it, so platform and application issues can be resolved end to end.
The engineer collaborates closely with backend engineers to improve deployment workflows and developer experience, owns production support for the workloads they deploy, and participates in client discussions to represent the team's technical decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Design, write, and maintain Helm charts and templates for containerized .NET microservices, including values structuring, chart versioning, and dependency management.
- Author and manage Argo CD ApplicationSets to drive GitOps deployment across dev, staging, and production; own sync policies, update strategies, and rollback procedures.
- Implement progressive delivery patterns — rolling updates, blue/green, and canary releases — matched to each service's risk profile.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, including branching and release workflows in Git.
- Design and implement Kubernetes scaling strategies (HPA, KEDA ScaledObjects for event-driven workloads, Karpenter-based node autoscaling) as workloads migrate from single-instance Docker to Kubernetes.
- Install and configure Kubernetes operators as needed to extend platform capabilities.
- Manage core Kubernetes resources supporting deployments: RBAC, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Services, Ingress, NetworkPolicies, and Persistent Volumes.
- Own production support for deployed workloads — triage pod, networking,
and resource-contention issues, and drive root-cause analysis with clear write-ups.
- Use the existing observability stack (Prometheus / Datadog, Grafana) to monitor deployment health, validate rollouts, and analyze logs during incidents.
- Partner with backend engineers on deployment workflow and developer-experience improvements.
- Contribute hands-on to the .NET codebase — debug and fix application-level issues, make small backend changes, and support the development team during delivery crunches.
- Participate in client discussions, explaining technical decisions and trade-offs to non-platform audiences.
REQUIRED SKILLS &
EXPERIENCE • 3–5 years in DevOps / Platform / Infrastructure engineering. Kubernetes & Deployment– 2+ years of production Kubernetes experience on AKS or EKS — deep hands-on with one is required; familiarity with the other is a plus.– Strong working knowledge of core resources: Pods, Deployments, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps, Secrets, RBAC, NetworkPolicies, and Persistent Volumes. – Able to write pod and deployment specs, and to explain the end-to-end deployment lifecycle and debug it when things break. GitOps & Release Engineering– Argo CD (mandatory): ApplicationSets, application lifecycle, sync/update strategies, and rollback.– Comfortable explaining and implementing rolling update, blue/green, and canary deployment strategies.– Helm: writing chart and template logic, structuring values, and explaining what a chart deploys and why.
CI/CD– Azure DevOps (required, primary).– Working familiarity with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI (secondary). Scaling– HPA and KEDA ScaledObjects.– Working knowledge of how Karpenter scales nodes. Containers & Scripting– Docker and container image best practices:
multi-stage builds, image size optimization, and basic security hygiene.– Bash for day-to-day scripting and debugging.– Python for automation and scripting logic.
Operations– Practical experience troubleshooting production Kubernetes workloads — pod failures, networking issues, and resource contention.– Working familiarity with Prometheus / Datadog and Grafana for monitoring and log-driven troubleshooting.– Comfortable driving root-cause analysis for production incidents. .NET Development– Working knowledge of C# and .NET — able to read, understand, and modify service code.– Comfortable debugging application-level issues in .NET services (startup failures, configuration binding, dependency injection, connection handling) alongside platform-level ones.– Familiarity with how .NET applications are built, containerized, and configured for Kubernetes — SDK vs runtime images, health probes, graceful shutdown, and workplace-based configuration.– Able to contribute small backend changes and support the development team during delivery crunches.
PREFERRED SKILLS • Terraform — logical or working understanding (infrastructure provisioning is owned by the platform team).
- Observability internals such as OpenTelemetry and Tempo.
- Experience developing custom Kubernetes operators.
- Exposure to container image scanning, signing, or broader software supply-chain security practices.
- Prior experience building or maintaining ASP.NET Core Web APIs or microservices in a production environment.
WHO YOU ARE • Genuinely curious — enjoys picking up new technologies and unfamiliar territory.
- A strong team player with clear written and verbal communication.
- Confident in client discussions — able to explain technical decisions to non-platform audiences and represent the team's work.
- Rational decision maker — weighs trade-offs explicitly, justifies choices with reasoning, and knows when “good enough” beats “perfect”.
- Ownership mindset — driven to evolve the platform into a scalable product, not just close tickets
