Role Overview :

At Astra Security, we are building the future of AI-driven cybersecurity, including Autonomous Pentesting - an experience that helps teams automatically discover, test and secure Web & Mobile applications, Cloud and APIs at scale.

As a Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the core backend services that power our platform.

You'll work on developing scalable APIs, distributed services, and backend systems that enable platform capabilities.

You'll collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, DevOps, and fellow backend engineers to build reliable, secure, and high-performance systems.

During your journey with us, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to new product initiatives from 0-1, influence technical decisions, and own features from design through production.

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.




- Own features end-to-end - from technical design and implementation to deployment and monitoring.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services that power core platform functionality.
- Leverage AI effectively to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and debugging while ensuring all code meets production-quality standards through critical review and validation.
- Design clean, maintainable, and reusable software following object-oriented design principles.
- Collaborate with frontend, product, DevOps, QA, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality features.
- Design efficient database schemas and optimise queries for performance and scalability.
- Build reliable asynchronous workflows using queues, events, and background processing.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
- Ship production-ready code frequently in a fast-paced engineering environment.
- Continuously improve developer productivity, system reliability, and engineering.

What we are looking for :

- 2 - 4 years of experience building backend applications in a product-based or SaaS environment.
- Strong proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language such as Java, C#, PHP, Python, or C .
- Robust understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), design patterns, and software engineering principles.
- Strong engineering judgment by validating, refining, and taking ownership of AI-assisted outputs.
- Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs.




- Good understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design and query optimisation.
- Understanding of Dependency Injection, ORM frameworks, data validation, caching, logging, and error handling.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

Location :

This is a hybrid role in Bengaluru and requires a regular in-office presence to collaborate closely with Engineering and Product teams.
