:

An Assistant General Manager (AGM) or Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Central Purchase in a steel company is a senior-level position responsible for the strategic sourcing and end-to-end procurement of raw materials, capital goods, and maintenance spares. This role focuses on cost optimization, vendor management, and ensuring uninterrupted production for integrated steel plants.

Key Job Responsibilities

- Strategic Sourcing & Procurement: Manage end-to-end procurement of raw materials (iron ore, ferro alloys, refractories, scrap, coal) and consumables for steel melting shops, blast furnaces, and rolling mills.

- Cost Optimization & Negotiation: Conduct high-level negotiations, tender finalizations (RFQ/RFP/Auction), and contract management to reduce procurement costs.

- Vendor Management: Develop and manage a diverse vendor base, conducting performance reviews, vendor audits, and sourcing alternative vendors to mitigate risk.

- Inventory & Logistics Control: Maintain optimal inventory levels using ABC/XYZ analysis, manage logistics, and coordinate with external partners for transportation and customs clearance.

- Project Procurement (CAPEX/OPEX): Handle procurement for recent projects (Greenfield/Brownfield)



and operational spares (MRO items).

- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with ISO standards, SAP-MM modules, and statutory regulations. Prepare monthly MIS reports and procurement dashboards for senior management.

- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a procurement team, setting KPIs and monitoring performance.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant technical field, with an MBA in Supply Chain or Operations preferred.

- Experience: 15+ years of experience in the steel industry (Alloy/Micro Alloy/Integrated Steel Plant).

- Skills: Strong knowledge of SAP/SAP ARIBA, material planning, inventory control, and advanced negotiation skills.

Common Key Materials Handled

- Raw Materials: Stainless steel scrap, ferroalloys (Ferro Chrome, Ferro Silicon), refractories, flux, lime, iron ore, and cored wires.

- Maintenance & Operations: Mechanical spares, gases, lubricants, and refractory materials.
