Job Title: Accountant Location: Chennai Organisation Background Sanitation First (www.sanitationfirstindia.org) is a multi-award-winning non-profit working in India over the last twenty years towards water smart, sustainable and climate-resilient communities where gender equity and innovative solutions guarantee clean water, sanitation, hygiene, and regenerative agriculture for all. It has reached over 700,000 beneficiaries so far across eight states and two union territories.

Specific Responsibilities

Financial management

Maintain financial procedures in line with organisational, statutory and donor requirements

Maintain the accounts in Tally accounting software and provide periodic updates to HQ.

Prepare monthly financial and variance statements for projects as per stipulated timelines

Prepare procurement documentation, contracts and other financial documents to ensure statutory and donor compliance Obtain proper bills and stamped receipts and prepare all project vouchers

Maintain inventory, asset register for the projects assigned

Facilitate internal and external audits as required.

General





Participate in relevant review meetings and donor meetings as and when required.

Travel to project sites for review and internal audit purposes as and when needed.

Any other task that may be required for the role

Essential Educational and Skill Requirements:

Minimum Intermediate CA/ICWA, with 1-2 years demonstrated experience preferably in a non-profit organisation.

Strong numeric and budget management skills and very high levels of integrity

Communication and reporting skills, verbal and written in English and Tamil. Working knowledge of Hindi will be an added advantage.

Ability to work to deadlines with valuable prioritisation and time management skills.
