Role SummaryOwns the planning, execution, and delivery of cybersecurity projects within or supporting the Security Operations Center. Bridges the gap between security analysts, engineering teams, and business stakeholders. Not a hands-on analyst — a force multiplier who keeps complex security initiatives on track.
Core ResponsibilitiesOperations & Program Management
- Oversee daily SOC operations to ensure effective monitoring and response to cybersecurity threats Virtual Vocations
- Drive project lifecycle from initiation to closure: scope, schedule, budget, risk, and stakeholder comms
- Maintain the project risk register and ensure actions are taken to reduce project risk Indeed
- Maintain records of security monitoring and incident response activities using case management and ticketing technologies; prepare briefings and reports on analysis methodology and results Glassdoor
Team Leadership
- Lead and manage a team of cybersecurity professionals to foster collaboration and performance excellence Virtual Vocations
- Coordinate across SOC analysts (L1/L2/L3), threat intelligence, IR, and red team functions
- Remove blockers and enforce accountability — not babysit
Policy & Compliance
- Develop and implement SOC policies and procedures aligned with federal and industry standards Virtual Vocations
- Align projects with frameworks: NIST CSF, MITRE ATT&CK;, ISO 27001, SOC 2
Stakeholder Management
- Translate technical security findings into business-readable status updates and risk posture reports
- Serve as liaison between business and technical aspects of projects CareerOneStop
RequirementsExperience
- 3–5 years of experience managing a Security Operations Center (SOC) and leading incident response activities Virtual Vocations
- Demonstrated delivery of security projects on time and within scope — not just "involved in" them
Technical Knowledge
- Proficiency in cybersecurity frameworks, risk management principles, and SOC technologies Virtual Vocations
- Familiarity with SIEM platforms (Splunk, Sentinel, QRadar), SOAR tools, and ticketing systems
- Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban Indeed
Education & Certs
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field Virtual Vocations
- PMP or CAPM strongly preferred
- Security certs (CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+) are a differentiator, not a substitute for PM competence
- What This Role Is NOTNot a SOC analyst role in disguise — you won't be triaging alerts
- Not a pure PMO bureaucrat pushing Gantt charts — you need enough security depth to call BS on technical estimates
- Not a title upgrade for a team lead who's never delivered a cross-functional project
