Job Description
BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION;
Digital Technology team drives the banks digital transformation by developing and implementing innovative technology solutions. The team focuses on enhancing digital banking experiences, streamlining operations, and ensuring robust cybersecurity. Their work enables CIBC to deliver seamless, secure, and customer-centric financial services.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Quality Engineer is accountable for leading and managing quality engineering and software testing activities across multiple projects, programs, or workstreams. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality solutions by developing and executing comprehensive test strategies, plans, and automation scripts, while driving continuous improvement in QA/QE processes and standards. The incumbent plays a key role in technical evaluation, solution design feedback, and implementation of emerging automation and AI-based testing approaches to expedite delivery, improve quality, and reduce costs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Testing Coordination & Execution:
- Develop, publish, and execute test plans, test cases,
traceability matrices, automation scripts, virtualization, status reports, defect and exit reports.
- Identify and obtain required test data and test environments.
- Develop, publish, and execute testing estimates and manage financials related to testing activities.
- Track and report QA/QE metrics and KPIs such as velocity and defect slippage.
Defect & Compliance Management:
- Manage defects throughout their lifecycle, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
- Identify, manage, and implement remediation for any noncompliance items and deviations.
- Ensure adherence to QA/QE standards and support the implementation of current standards.
- Recognize and identify areas for process, policy, or tool improvement.
Technical Leadership:
- Provide input, feedback, and challenge to technical designs and assess impacts to testing.
- Identify and implement automation, AI, or other emerging solutions to expedite testing and improve quality.
- Lead the adoption of automation frameworks and tools.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Collaborates with project managers, business analysts, developers, and other stakeholders to coordinate testing activities and ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Works closely with development teams to provide feedback on technical designs and assess testing impacts.
- Interacts with external vendors and tool providers to evaluate and integrate testing solutions.
- Partners with other QA/QE professionals across the organization to share best practices and drive continuous improvement.

JOB DIMENSIONS:
- Responsible for the delivery of testing services for assigned projects/initiatives, supporting retail banking, mobile, web-based, UX, API, and accessibility testing.
- Provides technical and process leadership to ensure quality standards are met.
- Supports achievement of business unit goals through effective quality engineering and testing practices.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
Experience:
- 5+ years QA/QE experience, 13 years development/automation
- Banking applications, API/web services, databases, integrations
Must have skills:
- API testing (REST, SOAP, gRPC)
- Automation tools (Postman, Parasoft SOATest, REST Assured, Karate)
- Programming in Python, Java, or JavaScript
- Database testing (SQL/NoSQL), ETL testing
- Service virtualization
- Version control (Git), CI/CD integration
- Test management tools (JIRA, ALM)
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Nice to have:
- MQ, Solace, batch testing, UNIX
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Performance testing tools (JMeter, NeoLoad)
- Security testing (OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite)
- Familiarity with microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role operates within a normal office environment with little exposure to adverse working conditions.
