Job Description: An Instrument Technician in a steel manufacturing plant is responsible for installing, calibrating, and maintaining the sensors, actuators, and control systems (like DCS and PLC) that monitor critical parameters like temperature, pressure, flow, and level. They ensure operational efficiency and safety in high-temperature heavy industrial environments. [1, 2] Key Responsibilities

- Calibration & Testing: Routinely calibrate and test process instruments (transmitters, valves, gauges) to ensure accurate readings and quality control. [1, 2]
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and repair electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical control systems during equipment failures or plant shutdowns. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- Preventative Maintenance: Execute scheduled preventative maintenance inspections to minimize downtime and prevent instrumentation faults. [1, 2]
- System Integration: Work with automation and control systems, including SCADA, PLCs, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS). [1]
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to plant safety guidelines,



handle hazardous materials, and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Documentation: Maintain logs of all maintenance, calibration reports, and spare parts inventory using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). [1, 2]

Qualifications & Skills

- Education: ITI in Instrument Mechanics or a Diploma in Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy manufacturing, petrochemical, or steel/power industries.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read technical drawings, P&IDs; (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and electrical schematics.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in high-heat environments, navigate confined spaces, and work on rotating shifts or emergency callouts.
