Job Description: A Welder for the steel industry is responsible for assembling, repairing, and fabricating heavy-duty metal structures and components. They interpret complex blueprints, operate specialized welding machinery, and ensure all steel structures meet strict structural integrity and safety standards. Core Responsibilities

- Fabrication & Assembly: Cut, shape, and join heavy steel plates, beams, and structural components using techniques like SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), and FCAW (Flux-Cored).
- Blueprint Reading: Accurately read engineering drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications to plan the layout of metal structure
- Quality Assurance: Inspect, measure, and test welded joints for flaws, warping, or defects using calipers and gauges.
- Machine Operation: Set up, calibrate, and perform light maintenance on welding machines, plasma cutters, and wire feeders.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict OSHA or local safety regulations, including using protective gear (helmets, respirators)



and ensuring hazard-free work zones.Key Requirements

- Technical Qualifications: Certification in structural steel welding (e.g., ASME, AWS, or IS codes) is typically required.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), stand for long shifts, and work in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead).
- Experience: Typically 2+ years of qualified welding experience, ideally within heavy manufacturing or steel fabrication.

Equipment & Tools Typically Used
- Stick (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Flux-Cored (FCAW) welding machines.
