Key Responsibilities:

Sample Preparation and Analysis:
Collecting and preparing biological specimens (blood, bone marrow, amniotic fluid, etc.) for analysis.

Chromosome Analysis:
Examining chromosomes under a microscope, identifying abnormalities, and performing techniques like karyotyping and FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization).

Molecular Testing:
Utilizing molecular techniques like PCR and NGS to detect gene mutations and rearrangements.

Data Interpretation and Reporting:
Accurately interpreting test results and preparing comprehensive reports for physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Quality Control and Maintenance:
Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results by maintaining laboratory equipment, adhering to quality control procedures, and following safety protocols.

Collaboration and Communication:

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.

- Certification as a Cytogenetic Technologist (e.g., by the American Society for Clinical Pathology) is often required.

- Proficiency in laboratory techniques like karyotyping, FISH, PCR, and molecular testing.
