Job Description: A General Manager (GM) for a Power Plant in India holds a senior leadership role responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and profitability of the plant. This position typically involves ensuring 24/7 secure and efficient electricity generation, managing large teams, maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, and optimizing costs. Key Responsibilities

- Operational Management: Oversee 24-hour operation and maintenance (O&M;) to ensure maximum availability, high efficiency of boilers/turbines, and minimum downtime.
- Strategic Planning: Develop long-term strategies, set production goals (power/steam), and achieve budgetary targets.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to statutory safety regulations, including Boiler Certificates (IBR norms) and pollution control standards.
- Team Leadership: Lead and motivate engineers, technicians, and operators, fostering a safety-focused culture.
- Fuel and Resource Management: Oversee the procurement and inventory of essential materials, such as coal (AFBC/CFBC boilers).
- Maintenance Strategy:



Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and handle major plant shutdowns.

Requirements and Qualifications

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institute.
- Experience: 15-25 years of post-qualification experience in coal-fired power plant operation and maintenance, with 5-7 years in a senior leadership role.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of boiler, turbine, and auxiliary equipment, particularly AFBC/CFBC boilers and thermal power generation technology.
- Skills: Proven leadership, strong problem-solving abilities, financial acumen (budgeting), and proficiency in SAP or similar systems.

Commonly Required Knowledge

- Mechanical Systems: Boilers, Turbines, Air Compressors, Cooling Towers.
- Statutory Regulations: IBR (Indian Boiler Regulation), Pollution Control, OSHA Standards.
- Performance Metrics: Heat rate optimization, capacity utilization.
