About the Role: The Chief Data Architect is the senior enterprise authority accountable for defining, building, and governing Groups target-state data architecture. The role exists to transform fragmented data estates across Oracle, Candy, Sphera, project controls, ESG/EHS, and other line-of-business systems into a scalable, federated, and governed data ecosystem. Reporting to the Chief Enterprise Architect, the Chief Data Architect will establish the enterprise data architecture strategy, operationalize the Groups data governance model, and define the standards, platforms, and practices required to make data-driven enterprise. The role must combine strategic architecture leadership with hands-on execution across master data, metadata, integration, data quality, data lifecycle management, and architecture governance.

- Define and maintain the Group enterprise data architecture strategy aligned to business strategy, enterprise architecture principles, and the digital transformation agenda.
- Develop the target-state data architecture covering transactional, analytical, master, reference, and unstructured data domains across the Group.
- Translate business capability priorities into practical data architecture roadmaps, including phased transition states, dependencies, and investment priorities.
- Establish a federated data architecture model that balances Group-level standards with business unit execution realities.
- Provide architecture direction for major programs involving Oracle, Candy, Sphera, ESG/EHS, project controls, manufacturing systems, and future digital platforms.
Data Governance and Operating Model
- Design and implement the enterprise Data Governance framework, including governance councils, decision rights, and stewardship structures.
- Define the roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities for Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians, and architecture stakeholders.
- Establish Group-wide policies and standards for data quality, data security, data classification, retention, privacy, and compliance.
- Create governance mechanisms for issue escalation, policy exception management, data quality remediation, and data ownership enforcement.
- Partner with business and IT leaders to embed governance into day-to-day operations rather than leaving it as a policy-only construct.
Data Lifecycle Management
- Lead the adoption of DAMA-aligned data lifecycle management practices across data creation, storage, integration, usage, archival, and retirement.
- Define lifecycle controls and architecture requirements for both structured and unstructured data assets.
- Ensure that lifecycle rules are reflected in platform design, retention schedules, compliance controls, and operational processes.
- Standardize how data is created, validated, consumed, archived, and retired across enterprise and line-ofbusiness applications.
Master Data, Metadata, and Interoperability
- Lead the architecture and governance of Master Data Management across critical domains such as organization, customer, supplier, project, material, asset, equipment, and workforce data.
- Define business and technical metadata models, standards, ownership, and stewardship mechanisms.
- Establish canonical data models, interface principles, and interoperability standards to improve consistency across enterprise platforms.
- Set standards for data exchange, integration patterns, data mapping, and lineage across Oracle, project controls, ESG, manufacturing, and digital platforms.
- Ensure that MDM and metadata design support enterprise reporting, analytics, operational control, and future AI use cases.
Data Platform and Engineering Enablement
- Architect the data platform foundations required for enterprise reporting, analytics, advanced data engineering, and future AI or machine learning use cases.
- Define standards for data ingestion, storage, transformation, orchestration, quality monitoring, cataloging, and access control.
- Guide the design and implementation of scalable data pipelines and reusable data products across the enterprise.
- Ensure the data architecture enables both business intelligence and advanced use cases without compromising control, quality, or security.
Hands-on Architecture Delivery
- Remain hands-on in architecture definition, data model review, integration design, metadata structures, and platform decision-making.
- Review and challenge detailed solution designs, data mappings, master data structures, and integration patterns.
- Lead architecture workshops, design reviews,
and working sessions with business, IT, and vendor teams.
- Provide direct leadership on complex architecture issues where practical design decisions are required, not only policy guidance.
Leadership and Governance Accountabilities
- Act as the enterprise data architecture authority within the Group Enterprise Architecture function.
- Chair or co-chair relevant forums for data architecture, governance decisions, and major data design reviews.
- Lead the establishment of a repeatable data architecture practice, including methods, standards, templates, and review mechanisms.
- Work closely with the Chief Enterprise Architect to align data architecture with application, integration, technology, and security architecture.
- Collaborate with CIO, CDO, cyber, business, and transformation leaders to ensure enterprise alignment and delivery realism.
- Guide internal teams, delivery partners, and vendors on architecture direction, quality expectations, and compliance with Group standards
Technical and Functional Competencies

- Additional certifications in data architecture, data governance, cloud data platforms, or enterprise integration are advantageous
