Cloud Support & Security Engineer

As the company moves its IT estate to Microsoft Azure, the Cloud Support & Security Engineer leads the setup, migration, security and ongoing maintenance of the cloud environment. The role is central to delivering a smooth, secure transition from on-premises systems to the cloud, and to keeping that workplace reliable, compliant and protected once live.
The successful candidate will be well versed in Microsoft technologies including Azure, Microsoft 365, SharePoint and the Microsoft security stack and will combine hands-on engineering with a strong, security-first mindset. Working alongside the Application Support team and business stakeholders, the role ensures cloud services support manufacturing operations safely and without disruption.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Setup & Architecture (Microsoft Azure)
Design, build and configure the Azure environment, including subscriptions, management groups, resource groups, virtual networks, storage and compute (IaaS and PaaS).
Implement landing zones, naming and tagging standards, role-based access control (RBAC) and governance/policy guardrails for a well-structured, cost-aware environment.
¢ Use infrastructure-as-code and automation (e.g. ARM/Bicep templates, PowerShell, Azure CLI) to deploy resources consistently and repeatably.
¢ Configure hybrid identity by integrating on-premises Active Directory with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) using Entra Connect.
Cloud Migration
¢ Assess current on-premises servers, applications, file shares and data to define migration scope, approach, sequencing and risks.
¢ Plan and execute the migration of workloads to Azure, minimising downtime, data loss and impact on production operations.
¢ Migrate on-premises SharePoint, file servers and collaboration content to SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365, preserving structure, permissions and metadata.
¢ Carry out testing, validation, cutover and rollback planning for each migration wave, and document outcomes.
Microsoft 365 & SharePoint Administration
¢ Administer SharePoint Online site provisioning, document libraries, permissions,



sharing controls and governance.
¢ Support and maintain the wider Microsoft 365 suite, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams and OneDrive.
¢ Apply information governance across SharePoint and Microsoft 365, including retention, sensitivity labelling and data loss prevention.
¢ Help users adopt SharePoint and Microsoft 365 effectively, in coordination with the Application Support team.
Security & Compliance
¢ Implement and manage identity and access security using Microsoft Entra ID conditional access, multi-factor authentication (MFA) and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
¢ Configure and monitor Microsoft Defender (including Defender for Cloud / Defender XDR) and Microsoft Sentinel for threat detection and response.
¢ Apply security baselines, hardening, patching and vulnerability management across cloud workloads.
¢ Use Microsoft Purview and related tooling to support data protection, classification and compliance requirements.
¢ Monitor security alerts, investigate incidents, and lead or support remediation and escalation.
¢ Maintain documentation of security controls, configurations and access in line with audit and governance needs.
Cloud Maintenance & Operations
¢ Monitor the health, performance and availability of cloud resources using Azure Monitor and related tools, and act on alerts.
¢ Manage backups, disaster recovery and business-continuity arrangements for cloud workloads and data.
¢ Track and optimise cloud costs, identifying savings and right-sizing opportunities.
¢ Perform ongoing maintenance, updates and capacity planning to keep the environment secure and reliable.
Support & Collaboration
¢ Provide expert support for cloud-related issues, handling escalations from the Application Support team and end users.
¢ Work closely with the Application Support Manager and engineers to align cloud services with ERP and business applications.
¢ Liaise with Microsoft, partners and third-party vendors on issues, licensing and enhancements.
¢ Maintain explicit documentation, runbooks and knowledge-base content for the cloud environment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
¢ Bachelors degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering,



or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
¢ Proven hands-on experience setting up, migrating to and maintaining Microsoft Azure environments.
¢ Strong experience across Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint (on-premises and/or SharePoint Online) and Microsoft Entra ID.
¢ Demonstrated experience with cloud and identity security conditional access, MFA, Microsoft Defender, and security monitoring.
¢ Experience migrating on-premises workloads, file shares and SharePoint content to the cloud.
¢ Working knowledge of scripting and automation (PowerShell, Azure CLI) and infrastructure-as-code.
¢ Familiarity with operating in or supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment is an advantage.
Certifications (one or more desirable)
¢ Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
¢ Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500) note Microsoft is replacing this with the Cloud and AI Security Engineer Associate (SC-500); either is acceptable.
¢ Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate (SC-300).
¢ Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert (MS-102) covers Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, security and compliance.
¢ Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) or Security Operations Analyst (SC-200) are advantageous.
