Job DescriptionSummaryWe areseeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer specializing inHVDC System Design and Studies, responsible to interpret thecustomer’s technical enquiry and to design the most cost-effectiveoverall solution for an HVDC installation utilizing the powerelectronics solutions, aiming to minimizing the total cost, and tospecify the main (high-value) items of bought-out equipment forHVDC Projects. The successful candidate will also be involved inthe development of tools and processes for HVDC SystemEngineering.As part of the role, the candidatewill be required to represent GE in front of external stakeholderssuch as clients, third party suppliers, professional bodies (IEC,Cigré, etc). You will also interact with GE stakeholders within theHVDC business and the wider GE renewables Organisation.JobDescriptionJobDescriptionKeyResponsibilitiesOverseeingthe overall technical solution that meets customer Requirementbased on referenceSolution.Identify and driveimprovements in engineering, operational tools, processes, systems& technical solutions to improve our customer value andbusiness efficiencyUpholdthe principles of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) withinthe teams.Work closely withTeam Managers to plan execution strategies, provide engineeringestimates, identify risks and put mitigation strategies for newopportunitiesDeveloping andmaintaining technical specifications, guidance notes, and standardsfor HVDCsystems. ParticipatePatent Evaluation Board (PEB) to protect technology that gives thebusiness a competitive advantage, as well as protecting theintellectual property rights of thecompany.Represent thebusiness externally at conferences or in skilled workingbodies (IEC, CIGRE etc) and maintain active relationship withrelevant academic institutions to promote research projects andother academiccooperations. Providead-hoc technical guidance to the Engineering/Technology leadershipteam as required, e.g., joining customer negotiations or supplieraudits.Develop anintegrated scheme design that meets the Customer’s needs, bydeveloping requirements on the ratings and functionalities of thedifferent HVDC system’s subsystems, in an optimized andcost-effectivemanner.Manage the lifecycleof high economic value High Voltage equipment such as powertransformers, instrument transformers, reactors, capacitors, andsurge arresters, covering the development of its requirements,specification, supplier management and the validation andverification (testing) of design,
manufacturing andcommissioning.Reliability,Availability and Maintainability Studies andManagementCreate, verify,and validate the electrical power losses models for HVDC systemsand subsystems, providing insight to customers and leaders andmanaging the risks, issues and opportunities that affect thesystems throughout theirlifecycle.Provide technicalguidance and mentorship to junior engineers on control, protection,and integrationissues.Providing subjectmatter expert input to design reviews and verifying projectproposals. Stayupdated with emerging technologies, standards, and best practicesin HVDC systems.Maintain anactive role in product introduction, cost improvements, scheduleadherence and problem resolution to meet business needs. Providetechnical consultation to cross-functional teams within thebusiness to improve or resolve manufacturing, supply, or fieldissues.Actively supportConsulting Engineers with staff development & successionplanning.
