Position Overview
The Hackathon Specialist is responsible for designing, organizing, and executing hackathons and innovation-driven events that foster creativity, problemsolving, interdisciplinary collaboration, and realworld application of skills among students. This role works closely with faculty, industry partners, student clubs, and administrative teams to build a vibrant innovation ecosystem on campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Hackathon Planning Develop annual and semesterwise hackathon calendars aligned with academic goals and institutional priorities.
- Event Design — Create themes, challenge statements, judging criteria, and problem tracks relevant to industry trends and student interests.
- Industry Collaboration — Partner with companies, startups, NGOs, and government bodies for mentorship, sponsorship, and realworld problem statements.
- Student Engagement — Promote participation through workshops, orientation sessions, bootcamps, and prehackathon training.
- Technical Facilitation — Ensure availability of tools, platforms, APIs, cloud credits, and technical support during events.
- Logistics & Operations — Manage venue setup, registration, scheduling, hospitality, and coordination with campus departments.
- Mentor & Jury Management — Recruit, brief, and coordinate mentors and judges from academia and industry.
- Innovation Ecosystem Development — Support incubation programs, student innovation clubs, and project continuation posthackathon.
- Documentation & Reporting — Prepare event reports, impact metrics, media content, and success stories for institutional visibility.
- Budget & Sponsorship — Plan budgets, secure sponsorships, and ensure costeffective execution.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Project Management — Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Technical Literacy — Understanding of coding, emerging technologies, and developer tools (not necessarily expert-level).
- Communication & Networking — Ability to engage students, faculty, and industry partners effectively.
- Creativity & ProblemSolving — Cutting-edge mindset to design impactful challenges and events.
- Event Management — Experience in planning and executing large-scale events.
- Data & Reporting — Ability to measure outcomes and present insights.
Qualifications
- Master degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Management, or related fields.
- Experience in organizing hackathons, coding competitions, or innovation events (preferred).
- Familiarity with startup ecosystems, incubation centers, or developer communities is a plus.
