Houston Engineering India Private Limited is seeking experienced MEP Designers specializing in Electrical and Plumbing Design to support USA-based engineering and construction projects.
The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed MEP design drawings, layouts, calculations, construction documentation, and multidisciplinary coordination for commercial, industrial, multifamily, retail, warehouse, office, healthcare, restaurant, and mixed-use projects.
The role requires strong proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD, the ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings, and a good understanding of relevant U.S. codes, standards, and construction documentation requirements.
The candidate may work across electrical and plumbing design activities depending on their area of expertise and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
MEP Design & Drafting
- Prepare detailed MEP design and construction drawings for commercial, industrial, multifamily, warehouse, retail, office, healthcare, restaurant, and mixed-use projects.
- Develop electrical power distribution, lighting, grounding, panel schedules, circuiting, equipment layouts, and one-line diagrams.
- Prepare plumbing layouts for domestic cold and hot water, sanitary, waste and vent systems, stormwater drainage, roof drainage, and fuel gas piping.
- Prepare electrical, plumbing, MEP plans, riser diagrams, schedules, details, equipment layouts, and construction documentation.
- Design electrical distribution systems, including 120/208V and 277/480V systems, as applicable.
- Prepare fire alarm, low-voltage, communications, and security layouts, where required.
- Support design of specialized plumbing systems such as grease traps, high-purity water systems, chemical/acid waste systems, and medical gas systems, where applicable.
- Support fire protection design coordination, including automatic sprinkler systems, standpipes, and fire pump layouts, where required.
- Prepare accurate design and construction drawings using Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
Design Calculations & Technical Support
- Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop calculations, conductor sizing, equipment sizing, and related design calculations.
- Support short-circuit analysis, breaker coordination, generator sizing, and ATS sizing, where applicable.
- Prepare lighting layouts and photometric calculations using AGi32 or equivalent tools, where required.
- Perform plumbing calculations,
including water demand, fixture units, pipe sizing, sanitary loads, storm drainage sizing, and related calculations.
- Support water heater sizing, grease trap sizing, roof drainage calculations, and other plumbing system calculations.
- Review equipment submittals, vendor data sheets, and technical documentation.
MEP Coordination & Clash Detection
- Coordinate MEP designs with architectural, structural, civil, fire protection, and other engineering disciplines.
- Review architectural backgrounds, reflected ceiling plans, equipment layouts, structural drawings, and site utility plans.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design coordination and clash detection.
- Ensure large pipe mains, drainage slopes, electrical conduits, HVAC ductwork, structural beams, and other building systems are properly coordinated.
- Identify and resolve design conflicts and constructability issues.
- Participate in design review and coordination meetings with internal and U.S.-based project teams.
Construction Documentation & Project Support
- Prepare permit and construction drawing packages in accordance with project requirements.
- Respond to RFIs, design queries, plan review comments, and coordination comments.
- Review contractor shop drawings, submittals, and vendor documentation.
- Revise drawings based on project, client, consultant, and authority comments.
- Support construction administration and provide design clarifications during project execution.
- Prepare as-built drawings at project completion, where required.
- Maintain organized project files and technical documentation.
Code Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure all MEP designs comply with applicable U.S. codes, standards, local amendments, project specifications, and client requirements.
- Apply relevant codes and standards, including:
- NEC
- NFPA
- IPC
- UPC
- IBC
- IMC
- IFGC
- ADA requirements
- Local jurisdiction and utility requirements
- Conduct self-checks and quality reviews of drawings and design documents.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, constructability,
and code compliance of all deliverables.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3-7 years of experience in MEP, Electrical, Plumbing, or Building Services Design.
- Robust proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
- Experience in preparing detailed design and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of electrical and/or plumbing MEP systems.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
- Experience in multidisciplinary coordination and clash detection.
- Knowledge of design calculations and equipment sizing relevant to the respective discipline.
- Experience working on U.S.-based projects is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Software Skills
- Revit MEP Required

- AGi32 or equivalent photometric software – Preferred for Electrical Design
Desired Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a technically strong and detail-oriented MEP professional with experience in Electrical and/or Plumbing Design. The candidate should be capable of independently preparing accurate MEP drawings, performing design calculations, coordinating with multiple disciplines, and supporting projects from design development through permit and construction documentation.
The candidate should be comfortable working with U.S.-based project teams, managing multiple project deliverables, meeting deadlines, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
Qualification
B.Tech / B.E. / Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering disciplines, including:
