1. Core Responsibilities

Credit Risk Assurance Reviews

- Conduct risk-based assurance reviews across the credit lifecycle including:
- underwriting and credit decisioning
- credit approvals and delegated authorities
- portfolio monitoring
- collections and recoveries

- Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of credit risk controls.
- Apply audit like and/or risk-based methodologies to assess compliance with credit policies, regulatory expectations and internal standards.
- Perform file reviews and sampling of credit decisions to assess appropriateness of risk assessment and documentation.
- Track and validate findings actions through to closure

Data Analysis & Portfolio Insights

- Analyse credit portfolio data to identify trends, emerging risks and potential control weaknesses.
- Perform data-driven testing to validate credit risk controls and underwriting standards.
- Use analytical tools to assess key indicators such as:
- credit quality trends
- arrears and default rates
- concentration risks
- policy exceptions
- quality of decision making

- Develop and maintain analytical models or dashboards to support assurance reviews.

Policy & Regulatory Compliance

- Assess alignment of credit processes with internal policies, risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
- Evaluate compliance with relevant regulatory requirements (e.g. Consumer Duty, responsible lending obligations).
- Identify areas where credit practices may expose the organisation to heightened financial or conduct risk.

Assurance Methodology

- Plan and execute assurance reviews using the teams structured methodology including:
- risk assessment
- control evaluation
- sample testing
- root cause analysis

- Document findings clearly and provide evidence-based conclusions.
- Prepare high-quality working papers and assurance reports.





Stakeholder Engagement

- Engage with credit risk, underwriting, and business teams to understand processes and controls.
- Present findings and insights to senior stakeholders in Risk, Credit and Internal Audit.
- Provide practical recommendations to strengthen credit risk management frameworks.

Continuous Improvement

- Contribute to the development of data-led assurance approaches within Risk Assurance.
- Identify opportunities to enhance credit risk monitoring and governance.
- Support thematic reviews and deep dives into emerging credit risks.

2. Experience Requirements

- 5 years (or comparable) previous assurance experience working in a Credit Assurance, Compliance Assurance and/or Internal Audit function within a regulated lending or banking setting is essential
- 5 years (or comparable) demonstrable experience of critically analysing information and bringing out clear implications is essential
- 5 years (or comparable) experience of the development of management information for multiple audiences is desirable
- 5 years (or comparable) previous exposure to and understanding of operational functions and projects such as product development, operational processes and other tactical business changes is desirable

3. Knowledge Requirements

- Detailed knowledge of the current FCA regulatory expectations in respect to responsible lending, conduct risk,



and customer outcomes together with the latest industry responses to those expectations is essential.
- Detailed knowledge of the MCOB, PRIN and COCON handbooks, PRA and FCA knowledge, as well as financial crime regulations is essential.
- Understanding of Mortgage, Secured Loan and Savings Products and Servicing Processes is essential.
- In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements, credit underwriting risk assessment methodologies, and industry best practices in credit assurance.
- Good understanding of GDPR best practice is desirable.

4. Skill and Competency Requirements

Technical Skills

- Strong understanding of credit risk management and lending processes.
- Experience analysing credit files and underwriting decisions.
- Ability to interpret credit policies and regulatory expectations.
- Experience using data analytics tools (e.g. Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python or similar).
- Knowledge of credit risk metrics and portfolio performance indicators.

Analytical Skills

- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to adopt an audit mindset when reviewing credit processes.
- Experience performing structured reviews and documenting evidence.
- Ability to identify root causes of control weaknesses.

Stakeholder & Communication Skills

- Ability to clearly articulate complex credit risk issues.
- Strong written communication for reporting and documentation.
- Ability to challenge constructively and maintain independence.

5. Required Qualifications/Certifications

- Degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management or related discipline.
- 5+ years’ experience in credit risk, credit underwriting, or credit audit.
- Professional qualifications desirable (e.g. CFA, FRM, ACA, CIA or equivalent).
- Experience within banking, mortgage lending or financial services preferred.
