Function: Barley Research & Development

Seeking to hire an R&D; Lab In-Charge for its Barley Research and Development function based in Gurgaon. Candidates with prior experience in operating a micro-malting laboratory and Hands-on experience in SAP will be given preference.

Primary Purpose of the Role

To manage end-to-end laboratory operations, including micro-malting, barley and malt analysis, ensuring accurate testing, compliance with quality and safety standards, and efficient coordination of lab resources, procurement, and logistics.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Laboratory Operations & Technical Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day laboratory operations related to micro-malting, barley, and malt analysis.

• Perform phys-chemical analysis and germination tests of barley samples.

• Ensure calibration, periodic servicing, and preventive maintenance of all laboratory equipment and instruments (Micro-malting units, FOSS analyzers, incubators, etc.).

• Implement and maintain SOPs, SLAs, quality systems, and laboratory safety protocols.

• Oversee seed treatment, storage, fumigation, and handling of seeds and samples received in the laboratory.

• Lead seed treatment, packing, and labeling of barley varieties for breeding and crop management trials.

Inventory, Procurement & SAP Operations

• Manage laboratory inventory, including consumables, chemicals, and equipment, in line with 5S standards.

• Procure laboratory goods and services including chemicals, agro-chemicals, fertilizers, labels, and trial materials for lab,



warehouse, and trial sites.

• Hands-on experience in SAP including raising Purchase Requisitions (PRs), follow-up on Purchase Orders (POs), and post-GRN processing.

• Track procurements, coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders, and ensure timely availability of materials.

• Manage expense accounting and maintain accurate procurement and financial documentation related to lab operations.

Logistics & Field Support

• Coordinate logistics and movement of R&D; assets including seed drills, threshers, seeds for sowing, and post-harvest samples.

• Provide quality testing training and technical support to field officers and interns.

• Support field activities including barley sowing and harvesting, as and when required.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Graduate or Postgraduate in Science or Agriculture (Biochemistry, Chemistry, Food Science/Technology, Biotechnology, Agriculture, or related disciplines).

• Minimum 3 years of full-time experience in laboratory management or lab operations.

• Prior experience in micro-malting laboratories will be an added advantage.

• Strong working knowledge of SAP for procurement and expense accounting.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Good communication and coordination skills.
